If there’s one actress who is the queen of millennial TV, it’s Shay Mitchell. With multiple shows and incredible roles to her name, it’s easy to see why.

When Millenials were born, the television world was booming. There were sitcoms, talk shows, teen shows and a little something for everybody. As Millenials began to grow up and start to pay more attention to TV, streaming became an even larger avenue. Most Millenials now rely completely on streaming services for their TV needs and thus brought the rise of binging TV shows rather than watching week-after-week.

The TV landscape has changed for good and there is one actress who has come out on top because of that. Some might argue that a lot of actors and actresses made the switch seamless from TV star to streaming star. It’s true but one name stands above the rest and that’s Shay Mitchell. With her multiple TV roles and a Youtube channel, Shay Mitchell is easily the queen of millennial TV.

There is no better place to start when talking about Shay Mitchell than Pretty Little Liars. The series started in 2010 before eventually wrapping up in 2017. Mitchell was cast as Emily Fields in the series, a role that she seemed born to play. During her time on the series, Mitchell became a fan-favorite as her character arc was pretty interesting especially when it came to her feelings for Allison. It was an iconic role for Mitchell and is where most of us were first introduced to her as it was her big break.

The other reason this helped make her a millennial queen is that Pretty Little Liars was eventually released on Netflix. Fans that didn’t have cable when the show originally aired could now devour it. The series was eventually pulled from Netflix in 2019 which is sad but not uncommon. Either way, it was another stepping stone for Mitchell as it helped catapult her to another level and helped her get other memorable roles.

A year after Pretty Little Liars wrapped, Shay Mitchell was cast in the role of Peach Salinger on You. While You wasn’t a huge hit on Lifetime, the move to Netflix really solidified it as a millennial hit. Shay’s character, Peach was morally grey which made for an interesting dynamic in the series, especially with Joe. Peach ended up becoming a pretty decent part of the plot and thus Shay gained an entirely new legion of fans who knew her as Peach rather than Emily.

As if that wasn’t enough, Mitchell continued her domination into 2019 with the release of Hulu’s Dollface. She played Stella, the best friend of the main character and a model who is a more toned-down version of Peach. Despite being relegated to the best friend role again, Mitchell really set herself apart by giving a hilarious performance. It was a nice change-of-pace for her as she’s mostly known for her more dramatic roles.

In true millennial fashion, she also has her own Youtube channel. Her Youtube channel features a lot of different things including challenges, lifestyle videos and even, some collabs. Most recently, she did an entire documentary series about her pregnancy including the delivery of her baby. Despite having the channel for five years, it’s really grown in the past year or so.

Overall, Shay Mitchell is one of the best and most hardworking actresses out there. She’s taken on various different roles and given incredible performances. Hopefully, she gets the recognition she deserves and eventually becomes the lead. If not, she still has an exciting and successful career. The future looks bright for Shay Mitchell and we’re just at the tip of the iceberg.

Some may point to other actresses but to me, Shay Mitchell is easily the queen of millennial TV right now. She’s starred in some of the most popular shows, has her own Youtube channel and is someone who most of us would love to be friends with. The only thing that could take her over the top is getting a lead role rather than being relegated to the best friend role. Shay could become even bigger if given the chance.
