More from FOX

The promo for the episode teased the idea of something happening to one of our own. It looked like one could get shot. And that someone was T.K.

Is that how it would all play out? Who would be the one to shoot him? Well, it turned out that a man with dementia got confused and ended up in the wrong house. The owners of the house feared this man because he had a knife. As the man tried to get into the bedroom believing his wife was in there, the couple and their grandson had a gun aimed at the door.

Grace got fire and paramedics dispatched to the house knowing what could happen. She managed to talk the man with dementia out of the house, but the man in the bedroom with the gun seemed to have suffered a heart attack. The 126 had to get into that room.

It should have been easy. Quickly knock down the door and get to the man. What they didn’t expect was for the grandson to have picked up the gun and fire at whoever was coming through the door, believing it to be the intruder. T.K. was shot.

T.K.’s life remains on the line

We didn’t get any answers about what would happen to T.K. by the end of the episode. The good news is that he was in the hospital when we left him. The bad news is that he’s in a coma right now.

T.K.’s lung was hit and needed to be inflated. He didn’t get enough oxygen to the brain and doctors are worried about a brain injury. That’s something we’ll need to watch out for as we get ready for the two-hour season finale next week to find out if he’ll wake up.

T.K. is needed on the series

I have no doubt that 9-1-1: Lone Star will be renewed for a second season. And when it is, there’s one thing I know for certain: the show needs T.K. He’s a character with a lot of potential for growth, especially in his relationship with Carlos. We’ve seen so much of it already but there’s still plenty to come.

I do have a gut feeling that he’ll pull through. After all, these types of events happen. People wake up without a problem despite doctors being worried. Doctors do need to err on the side of caution a lot of the time. They want to give hope but they can’t make promises.

While Owen Strand is the lead character, his relationship with his son also brings in a different dynamic to the team. There’s that familial bond of the two being willing to do anything for each other and constantly looking out for danger that could fall on each other. While all firefighters would be like that, this relationship goes that one step further and makes things extremely interesting.
