4. “The Gayle Tales”

No doubt in between Seasons 1 and 5, there are some memorable episodes but this list is focused on Gayle’s best episodes. A few are worth a mention though including “Dr. Yap,” “Topsy” and “The Kids Run Away.” The best Gayle episode of Season 5 has to be “The Gayle Tales,” an episode that even non-fans of Gayle can appreciate because it’s so goofy and fun to watch all of the different scenarios.

The episode follows the kids who get grounded by Linda for some unknown reason. They’re sulking in the restaurant until Gayle shows up, claiming she’s been left dateless and the kids all jump at the chance to go with her. In Linda’s anger, she decides that they each have to write a story about Gayle and Gayle gets to pick the winner. The only caveat is that Gayle has to end up with Scott Bakula which the kids do happily. Each of the kids does a parody of something but before Gayle can choose a winner, her date shows up. The episode ends with us finding out what the kids did to Linda and her decision to unground them the next day.

This has so many trademark quirks of Gayle including her insecurity with men and finding a way to share it with the rest of the family. She’s at her most Gayle when she’s hearing the stories though as she’s completely taken by them. The concept for this episode is super fun and continues the trend of trilogy episodes. As far as Gayle episodes go, this is easily in the top-tier.
