The Baby-Sitters Club joins Netflix’s laundry list of book-to-TV adaptations. With over 100 to choose from, which books will inspire the series?

The babysitters are back. Well, at least The Baby-Sitters Club is making a comeback. While we already knew that Netflix was producing a series based on the books, we’ve found out more info since then. Set to release in 2020, the TV series will reunite us with our favorite group of babysitters. For those of us who grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen any type of Baby-Sitters Club content.

Thankfully, the TV series will be keeping the same name as the book series. According to Netflix, the premise also sounds similar: “In this contemporary take on the beloved book series, five best friends launch a babysitting business that’s big on fun and adventure.”

No surprise that there’s going to be a few changes. Most notably, the character of Dawn is going to be Latina instead of white. Additionally, the first season of BSC is going to have 10 episodes.

With only 10 episodes being produced, it’s only right to question which books they’ll be taking inspiration from. Since hearing about the revival, the question has been plaguing me. While we don’t have a definite answer, we can always speculate. With over 130 books to choose from, the show has a lot of material to work with so let’s get into a few ideas on what they could do with those 10 episodes.

The first possibility is that the series will focus on the first 10 books. If you don’t remember, the first 10 books are “Kristy’s Great Idea,” “Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls,” “The Truth About Stacey,” “Mary Anne Saves the Day,” “Dawn and the Impossible Three,” “Kristy’s Big Day,” “Claudia and Mean Janine,” “Boy-Crazy Stacey,” “The Ghost at Dawn’s House” and “Logan Likes Mary Anne!” Looking at those books, each episode would focus on all of the girls and hopefully, give us a deeper look at their character. It’s a solid choice although some of the books could be a little dated.

Another idea would be the series picking random books from the series. No doubt they’ll still start with “Kristy’s Great Idea.” However, there are a ton of other books in the series that could be more interesting. Whether it be introducing Jessie or Mallory in Season 1 or featuring episodes with more progressive plotlines, the sky is the limit. The series has a huge backlist so they could easily pick and choose.

Lastly, the series could be wholly original. While the concept would stay the same, the episodes might not focus on the books. Rather, they’d be told through a more modern lense and focus on modern babysitting situations. With the advances in technology since then, a lot of the “problems” don’t exist now. Right now, it doesn’t feel like we hear about babysitting as much so it would be nice to see how the show handles that.

Either way, it sounds like the new The Baby-Sitters Club series is going to be great. As someone who recently read the first book, it still holds up. Even though there are going to be changes, they at least have the blessing of the creator, Ann M. Martin. Martin is a producer on the series so it’ll be nice to see where her influence lies. Personally, I’m incredibly excited to see The Baby-Sitters Club make a comeback so I’m anxiously awaiting news on the series.
