No list of TV doctors is complete without The X-Files’ resident physician-slash-FBI-agent.

Special Agent Dana Scully is best known for her work as Special Agent Fox Mulder’s partner in the X-Files division of the FBI. Together, the two agents investigated hundreds of otherwise unexplained cases, with mixed results. The only consistency was more sexual tension than is medically safe for anyone, much less a person in a high-stress job.

That might make it difficult for those unfamiliar with the series to understand why, exactly, Scully should be on our list of TV doctors, as opposed to, say, some kind of law enforcement list. But as viewers were reminded many, many times over the course of the series’s original run, Scully is also a medical doctor.

Scully makes our list of TV doctors to consult with on your sick day for a number of reasons, not the least of which is her personal history with investigating the paranormal. She can handle everything from gunshot wounds to tobacco beetles, alien viruses to basic first aid. And if you fear you may be incubating some sort of extraterrestrial experiment or are mysteriously suffering from an incurable cancer after removing a device from the back of your neck, she has first-hand experience.

What if the love of your life has been dead and buried for several months, but you want to see about bringing him back to life without turning him into a super-soldier? Special Agent Dana Katherine Scully, M.D. has you covered there, too.

Mixing medical expertise and an unwavering belief in science with a flair for the bizarre makes Dr. Scully especially well-suited to looking after the rarest and most severe of illnesses; and the number of times she and her partner both wound up as hospital patients gives her an edge in knowing what it’s like from the other side of the doctor-patient relationship.

But that’s not all! Scully is probably the only person on our list of TV doctors who comes prepared to kick some major butt on your behalf. Remember: She might be a medical doctor, but she’s also one of the toughest FBI agents of all time, too. With Dr. Scully on the case, your sick day will end with you feeling much better—no matter what’s making you sick—and you’ll rest safely knowing you’ve got one of the nation’s finest at your side.
