From law drama to friendships: 3 reasons you should be watching All Rise
Simone Missick
Admittedly, I feel like I am late to jumping on the Simone Missick bandwagon, but ever since I saw her in Luke Cage, I adored her. She’s rough, fierce and carries herself with so much grace and fortitude.
Putting her front and center of All Rise was a smart move for CBS. It’s about time she carried her own show and she has done a tremendous job doing so.

All Rise has put Lola in precarious spots. When she became a judge, she didn’t look like the other judges, who were mostly older white men. The writers didn’t shy away from those differences either, making them a part of her character and what makes her such a great leading person.
She has a swagger, but also a humility where she wears every feeling on her fashionable sleeves. Lola loves, feels the pain of those in her courtroom, and is fair even when other would do things differently.
Lola also struggles with doing what is right. There aren’t perfect answers and that’s something she has to contend with. The are laws for a reason and while she recognizes they are also not always fair; she follows it the best way she can while looking for ways to make things better for individuals who truly want to get better.
Missick is great at hitting all of these notes.
