Hawaii Five-0 is coming to an end on April 3, but with the introduction of a new character, could the stage be set for a spin-off?

With its last episode set to air on April 3, Hawaii Five-0 will bring down the curtain on 10 wonderful seasons of the rebooted series. But just last week, along with special guest star, Chuck Norris, the show introduced a new character, Lincoln Cole (Lance Gross). But this wasn’t just any character. This guy came across as an almost exact replica of series star Alex O’Loughlin’s character, Commander Steve McGarrett, and his appearance sparked a lot of questions in the fan community, the biggest of which is: Is Lance Gross’ character being eyed for a spin-off series?

Ordinarily, the series doesn’t provide a lot of backstory for temporary characters; yet, for Lincoln Cole, not only did we learn a lot about his character, we also saw McGarrett go to bat for him in what might be the final redemption of the series. And the character’s abilities were highlighted with what can only be described as series star potential.

Even with Alex O’Loughlin leaving and Meaghan Rath (who portrays Tani Rey) already tapped to headline a comedy pilot at CBS,  there are still plenty of task force members remaining who could carry a spin-off with Lance Gross as the lead, especially since this character has the same potential to be just as over-the-top as Commander McGarrett. (After all, Detective Danny Williams (Scott Caan) did say that Cole might even be crazier than McGarrett.) In addition, a spin-off would leave open the door for a possible return for Alex O’Loughlin as a guest star if he is written out in the series finale.

Though there has been no official notification of a spin-off, Hawaii Five-0 has a built-in fan base and currently ranks fourth in all of the dramas on CBS. Even after 10 solid seasons, viewers have not gotten enough of the beloved series or its phenomenal cast of characters. So it stands to reason, they would tune it to watch a spin-off, especially if some of the familiar faces remained.
