SEAL Team: Is Clay Spenser leaving Team Bravo?
Clay Spenser (Max Thieriot) joined Team Bravo in the first season of SEAL Team, but it looks like something else has captured his attention.
Note: This post contains spoilers from the April 8 episode of SEAL Team.
In the first season of SEAL Team, all Clay Spenser wanted was to join Team Bravo. He knew it was the best, and he worked hard to accomplish his goal. Now, three years in, he’s accepted an offer to segue from a Tier 1 operator to an admiral. Of course, it’ll take some time, but that time will mean Clay can’t be a part of the team.
Being removed from the team already happened when Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz), the team leader, learned that Clay was going to leave the team. Jason sent Clay packing to an outpost in Afghanistan while the rest of the team stayed in place. And it didn’t look like Jason had any interest in bringing him back to the fold.

Does this mean that Clay is already off Team Bravo? Or does he still have time to change his mind? Most likely, yes. In fact, Max Thieriot says this time out in the outpost is actually a good thing for him.
"He goes through some things there where all of a sudden, he understands some of the sacrifice that has to be made. He sees things from a different perspective after his time there with these guys, who are not guys from the SEAL teams."
And we can’t forget that Ray (Neil Brown, Jr.) did tell Jason the team would need Clay if things went from bad to worse in Afghanistan. Max Theiriot confirmed that in an interview with TV Insider.
"He goes from this outpost and thinks he finds himself a little bit and then comes back. It just also means they’re going to need more help. They’re going to need all hands on deck for what’s about to come down the line, and they’re realizing that there’s more to what’s going on over there than they thought."
So while Clay may have aspirations of a bigger career, it looks like the time away from the team might actually serve to bring him closer to it. This episode, which was directed by Thieriot, is just the beginning of some lessons Clay needs to learn about being a member of Team Bravo.
SEAL Team returns Wednesday, April 22nd at 9:00 p.m. EST.
Do you think Clay will come back to Team Bravo with a different mindset? Do you think Jason will forgive him?
