Alright, let’s be real! The season premiere of Insecure was messy city. Issa discovers that her business partner Condola is dating her ex Lawrence, Molly is having doubts about her relationship with Andrew, and Issa barely manages to hold a successful mixer.

Here are 5 takeaways from the Insecure season 4 premiere:

Issa has a new bae, but will it last?

Fans of the show know all about Issa’s complicated relationship history. After a messy ending with Lawrence, an off-and-on relationship with Daniel (don’t bring up that ghoster Nathan), and other attempts at love I’m sure everyone is hoping Issa can find a healthy, stable relationship. “Lowkey Feelin’ Myself” has a sex scene pretty early on between Issa and her new man, Calvin who works as a TSA agent.

As much as I enjoy seeing over-sized men getting some love (don’t get me started on Lil Rel Howery’s guest arc in season 2), I am skeptical about this relationship. First off, it is not entirely clear whether this is a fling or a serious relationship. Second, Calvin showed some gutsy corniness during Issa’s mixer. Issa seems to be content for the moment though, so I wish her and Calvin the best.

Molly and Andrew

Picking up from where season 3 left off, Molly and Andrew are still seeing each other but haven’t committed to anything serious. Molly is the main one keeping things casual, but takes offense when Andrew says he’s seeing other women. Her initial response is to get drunk and avoid the truth, but Issa senses that Molly really likes Andrew. So fortunately, Molly texts Andrew with the truth, but we don’t see his response to the text.

Keli is Still the Best Character

After fan-favorite season 3 episode “High-Like,” I’ve been wanting more Kelli every episode. She easily had the funniest lines out of any character this week. My favorite was her comparing Issa to Simone Biles: “Lookin’ like Simone Biles but a little clumsy.”

How Much Longer do We have to See Lawrence?

I am in no way a member of the #LawrenceHive, but I initially didn’t mind seeing Lawrence progress in life after him and Issa broke up. I didn’t even mind the episode where he goes to church last season. Jay Ellis does a fine job portraying Lawrence, but I’m wondering how much longer his character can serve a significant purpose on the show. The Condola/Lawrence/Issa situation is just pure mess, the imaginary sex scene was not something I wanted to see, and I would honestly rather see Daniel pop up again this season.

Issa needs a new partner for real

Speaking of the Condola/Lawrence/Issa situation, I believe Issa should cut off her partnership with Condola slowly and find a new business partner. They seem to be alright for now, but my gut is telling me more drama is coming.
