Why do Ruby and Billy want to escape their current situations? Here’s how to watch HBO’s Run Season 1, Episode 2 live online.
If your ex from 17 years ago texted you one word, which meant that you had to drop everything to go on a cross-country road trip, would you do it? I’m guessing most people would say no, but that majority doesn’t include Ruby and Billy in HBO’s Run Season 1.
In the premiere episode, we meet Ruby, a woman who seems sad and disappointed in suburban life. While talking to her husband on the phone in a Target parking lot, Ruby receives a text in all-caps that stated, “RUN.” Although hesitant at first, Ruby responds with “RUN,” and flies from Los Angeles to New York City to get on a train at Grand Central Station. It’s here where she meets Billy, the person who sent the message.

From the moment their eyes meet, Ruby and Billy’s sexual chemistry is palpable. There is clearly still a spark that never fully extinguished. While they were dating in college, Ruby and Billy made a pact that stated if one of them texted “RUN” and the other person responded with the same message, they would drop everything and meet at Grand Central for a cross-country road trip.
At first Ruby and Billy seem hesitant to share details about their current lives. Ruby asks to put a temporary moratorium on personal questions while failing to call her worried husband, who Billy does not know about. Billy shares that he’s a self-help guru, but seems to be hiding something that went wrong in his last seminar. At the end of the episode, Billy picks up Ruby’s phone and sees a picture of her husband and two children.
Although there was no preview of the second episode, there was a clip that highlighted multiple episodes in the coming weeks. Both Ruby and Billy are hiding things and in Billy’s case, it could be a matter of life or death. There may be another reason as to why he texted Ruby besides wanting to see her again. The second episode is titled, “Kiss,” so a long-awaited kiss between Ruby and Billy may be in the cards. Once again, the sexual energy between Ruby and Billy is magnetic. To put it nicely, some physical, intimate action between the former lovers will happen sooner or later.
