The Baker and the Beauty: 5 best scenes from Season 1, Episode 2
By Mads Lennon
4. Vanessa asks Daniel for another date
One thing I appreciate about The Baker and the Beauty is how it’s handling Vanessa’s character. I mentioned this in the premiere recap, too, but although Vanessa is obviously going to be set up as the antagonist here, she isn’t a bad person.

She has shallow tendencies, but she also isn’t a one-dimensional villainess out to take Daniel’s money (he doesn’t have any). Vanessa genuinely loves him. Unfortunately, she needs to accept that he’s moving on, which is where the problem arises. Still, I appreciated the scene between them, it makes Vanessa seem more human.
3. Natalie shares a sweet moment with a potential new friend
After the awkward dressing room incident with Vanessa, Natalie meets a new friend outside of the shop. It looks like The Baker and the Beauty might be introducing a gay or bisexual character, which would be awesome. I got a distinctive romantic vibe between Natalie and her new friend.
The two girls commiserate about the woes of trying clothes on in a dressing room and then Natalie’s new pal (and maybe more) offers her a ride home. Later, Natalie is seen smiling at her phone as she gets a message and her parents wonder if she’s met a “cute boy.” I’m excited to see where this storyline goes.
