When Calls the Heart’s love triangle ends with the season finale

When Calls the Heart established a love triangle in season 6 that had divided fans for the past two seasons.

This post contains spoilers for the season finale of When Calls the Heart.

When Calls the Heart’s Elizabeth Thornton, played by Erin Krakow, wasn’t ready for a new relationship in season 6 as she’d just lost her husband, Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), the previous season. But that didn’t stop the series from bringing in two future love interests in the charming Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) and the new Constable Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry). They were preparing for a time when Elizabeth would be ready.

Season 7 kept up the suspense of the love triangle with Elizabeth going on outings with Lucas and even a date in the season finale while Nathan had a difficult time even asking her for a date. Many fans didn’t want Elizabeth to choose another Mountie as her first husband was killed in the line of duty while serving as a Mountie.

Who the schoolteacher would choose was anybody’s guess, especially after the surprising date Elizabeth had with Lucas to celebrate her new book deal. Lucas poured on the charm, and Elizabeth was clearly enchanted. So much so that Nathan’s request for a dinner date took her by surprise and left her unable to answer.

Elizabeth had a difficult decision to make as her heart was being pulled in two different directions, but she made the final choice when hearing that someone, perhaps Nathan, had been shot. It took that soul-stirring moment for her to know who she wanted, and when she saw Nathan standing behind her unharmed, she ran into his arms.

This isn’t exactly the ending that Team Lucas fans wanted, but now that the decision has been made, hopefully, all the fans will pull together as new and exciting things happen in season 8 of When Calls the Heart.
