The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 is a year away, but we get our first look

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 isn’t happening for some time. As expected, we’re going to wait until 2021 for the season. However, that doesn’t mean Hulu isn’t thinking of us.

The Wrap reports that the fourth season of the dystopian future series will definitely be held until next year. What we don’t know is when. That will depend partially on when filming can happen and one Hulu’s schedule.

After starting in March 2020, production for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 was shut down due to the coronavirus. Toronto, which is where the show is filmed, is still to open the area for filming. Even neighboring areas haven’t opened up fully yet.

However, that hasn’t stopped the show from bringing us a tease of what to expect. And it’s not all old footage.

More from Hulu

Hulu dropped the official teaser for the fourth season of the series. There are some scenes that fans will recognize from the third season. We see the handmaids gathering around June to carry her to safety and the look on Moira’s face when she sees the children from Gilead on the plane.

However, there are some important scenes that show everyone is now ready for a fight. Luke, Moira, and the others want to do something from Canada. June has risked so much in getting the kids free and she’s stayed for Hannah. Now, the people of Canada need to start taking action.

Then there’s June and the rest of the handmaids. They’re dressed as marthas, making it clear they have to hide. Whether they wanted to be part of May Day or not, they’ve got no choice. By choosing June, they chose the new May Day and the fight for freedom.

June doesn’t want to get Hannah. She doesn’t just want to get the handmaid’s in her circle free. It sounds like she wants to get the handmaid’s in the capital free. It’s a huge risk, but one worth taking.

Freedom isn’t going to come easy, but they have people on their side. The question is whether they have the right people—can those people do anything to help? Commander Lawrence and Nick both have scenes in the teaser where they’re talking about June’s power over people; her ability to get people to do the right thing.

Finally, there’s Aunt Lydia, who claims that June cannot be saved. We can expect our formidable aunt to get in the way as much as possible. Of course, she may not be talking about June. There are thoughts that The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 will bring in some of Margaret Atwood’s novel “The Testaments,” which delves into Lydia’s backstory more. Her comment about someone not being saved sounds like something she said in that novel.

There are some standout lines at the end of the teaser. “Blessed be the squad” and “We’re just getting started” sent shivers down my spine.
