The Knight said ‘the Queen has risen’ at the end of Stargirl Season 1, Episode 11

Stargirl Season 1, Episode 11 saw Courtney learn that her father isn’t actually Starman. It cause a loss of faith, but Pat and Barbara helped her get her confidence back. All the while, Pat was trying to help one of the pre-JSA team members, the Shining Knight.

Something has happened to the Shining Knight, and it looks like it’s to do with the Dragon King. However, it’s the ending to the episode that stands out. When he saw Courtney with the staff, he said “the Queen has risen.”

What exactly did he mean by that?

A Knight needs a Queen

Well, I guess the statement is pretty obvious. Knights protect royalty. He’s going to view Courtney as someone he needs to protect.

But this doesn’t explain why he views Courtney as a queen. What is it about her holding the staff that makes this knight think of Courtney as a queen?

When we think of knights, we tend to think of medieval England, possibly even the Arthurian legends. Is it possible there’s a connection there? After all, it almost seems like the sword he has is Excalibur. Could it be that Courtney is Guinevere in his eyes?

The Legends have met Guinevere

If you haven’t watched some of the other Arrowverse shows, it will be understandable if you’re just not quite sure how Stargirl and the Arthurian legends could connect. In Legends of Tomorrow Season 2, the Legends headed to King Arthur’s time. Stargirl was Merlin.

Yep, really! Stargirl became an advisor to Arthur and Guinevere as the magician that we’ve all come to know as some guy in robes (whether old or young).

We know that this new version of Stargirl will fit into the Arrowverse in some way, so it makes sense to keep some sort of connection to Legends. But shouldn’t that mean Courtney is Merlin again?

Well, remember the Shining Knight is struggling with whatever the Dragon King has done to him. Seeing the staff, he could remember Guinevere instead of Merlin. Or maybe there’s something about the staff that makes the Knight believe that he has his Queen before his eyes. We don’t know whether he viewed Starman as the King.

It’s certainly going to be an interesting storyline to follow moving forward.
