Twilight fans are hoping more books equal more movies

Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun has energized fans hoping for more movies

When Midnight Sun, the book that tells the Twilight story from Edward Cullen’s point of view, released this month, fans clamored to buy the book, and within a week, over one million copies had been sold. Now, Stephenie Meyer has revealed that she plans to write at least two more books in the Twilight series. In fact, she has both books outlined and a chapter written of one.

Meyer has clarified that Midnight Sun marks the last book for Edward Cullen which means who the main characters will be in the upcoming two books is anybody’s guess. There have certainly been plenty of speculation about what characters need to have their stories told, but Meyer may introduce new characters into the fold.

Though Midnight Sun won’t be turned into a movie to retell Twilight from Edward Cullen’s point of view, the movie rights for new books could be up for grabs, especially since each movie in the Twilight series was so successful. Lionsgate won’t miss the chance to open the doors to another multi-million dollar hit…or two as back in 2017, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed that  “There are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories.”

The Twilight series offers plenty of characters who deserve their own movie

While Meyer built the franchise around Edward Cullen and Bella Swan’s forbidden love, she also opened the door to numerous other characters and love stories that could be told. Alice Cullen, in particular, has a compelling backstory, as does her partner, Jasper. Their combined stories could be another hit Lionsgate is waiting for.

Of course, most fans are probably hoping Meyer will jump ahead in the series to tell Jacob and Renesme’s story. And that is a possibility, considering Meyer did mention in 2011 that there was a chance she would go back to their story. Whichever character she chooses to utilize for her upcoming two books, fans will be there to buy, and if there are movies afterward, even better.
