What we know about the Stargirl Season 2 release date, cast, and more

Stargirl Season 2 is happening. That we definitely know, along with the fact that it’s coming sometime in 2021.

The CW renewed the series ahead of the final episodes of Season 1. DC Universe didn’t renew it, though. That means the show is going to be exclusively on The CW and it’s platforms (although streaming rights afterward aren’t clear yet).

What do we know about the second season? Who will be in it and what’s the storyline? Here’s everything we know so far.

Stargirl Season 2 release date

Right now, there isn’t a set release date. The CW has said that it’s coming in 2021.

More from CW

The whole schedule has been mixed up this year. The fall is nothing like what we’re used to, with the likes of The FlashLegends of Tomorrow, and the new Superman & Lois series being pushed to January 2021 to give everything time to film. (Thanks, coronavirus!)

Supergirl is being pushed to the new midseason, which will likely be spring 2021. This is purely due to Melissa Benoist’s pregnancy. Dynasty is also confirmed for the new midseason. Other than that, we don’t know.

Stargirl Season 1 premiered in May 2020. We could see a similar start date for Season 2. Depending on the length of the seasons for the other shows, Stargirl Season 2 may be pushed to summer 2021.

Where will Stargirl film?

Now that the series is purely The CW, will it move to Canada where all the other Arrowverse shows film?

Nope! In an interview with TVLine, Luke Wilson confirmed the series will continue to film in Atlanta. It’s also where Black LightningLegacies, and a handful of other CW shows film/filmed.

Everything is already built in Atlanta. There’s no point in moving everything north of the border, which would be more expensive. The good news is while the budget will be smaller, all the more expensive elements (like building S.T.R.I.P.E.) have already been completed, so that should mean plenty of money for the graphics to keep the same quality.

Stargirl Season 2 cast

We know that most of the main cast from Season 1 will return. Brec Bassinger and Luke Wilson will return as Stargirl and S.T.R.I.P.E. The following heroes are also set to return:

  • Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore
  • Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez/Wildcat
  • Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel/Doctor Mid-Nite
  • Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler/Hourman
  • Trae Romano as Mike Dugan

We’ll also likely see:

  • Hunter Sansone as Cameron Mahkent
  • Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman

Of course, it also looks like Joel McHale is also returning as Starman. It’s not clear how many episodes he’ll be in.

There will be some new villains showing up. Cindy is set to release Eclipso, which is going to be dangerous for everyone. Based on an interview with CinemaBlend, it looks like Cindy may need to turn to the Justice Society of America for some help. She doesn’t know what she’s getting into with Eclipso.

We also got a hint of Shade during the Stargirl Season 1 finale, so expect him to show up in the second season. A handful of the Injustice League of Society members remain alive, so they will likely show up in Season 2, as well.

Stargirl Season 2 synopsis and trailer

There isn’t a trailer out just yet. After all, the episodes haven’t film yet!

As for the synopsis, that isn’t out either. We don’t really know what’s going to happen on Stargirl Season 2. All we do know is that Cindy remains a problem for the Justice Society of America.

Will there be any crossovers with the other Arrowverse shows? We did get a hint that the series is part of the world of the Arrowverse at the end of the five-way crossover in 2020. There’s a chance The JSA could be needed for a future crossover.
