What to expect on Doctor Who Season 13 in the holiday special

Doctor Who Season 12 certainly left us with a lot of questions. The Doctor had learned some surprising things about her past and who she is, while the companions were left in Sheffield alone, not knowing where The Doctor had gone.

Now it’s time to find out a little about Doctor Who Season 13. During the virtual NYCC 2020 panel, Jodi Whittaker, Mandip Gill, and Bradley Walsh teased some of the things to come for their characters.

You can check out the entire panel below, which includes a recap of events from the 12th season. There may also be a few clips from the upcoming holiday special. Things go so quickly that it’s hard to tell.

Now, let’s get into the breakdown. Doctor Who Season 13 will kick off with a holiday special. There’s no confirmed date for that, but it will air on BBC America sometime during the holiday season. BBC America will also have a Doctor Who marathon between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, which would suggest the holiday special is going to be on New Year’s Day again.

Either way, we know it is happening and that the Daleks will be involved, but that’s it in terms of the big story.

One thing the panel offered us was a couple of looks at the holiday special through new images. One of those is Whittaker’s Doctor, who has a lot of tally marks on the wall. She’s in a secure prison serving a life sentence, but what does that mean for a Doctor who has unlimited regenerations?

What does it mean for someone who is the creator of all Time Lords? What does this mean for all the regenerations rules previously set on Doctor Who?

The second photo is of the three companions, Yaz, Ryan, and Graham. Gill shares that the three are back in Sheffield with no idea what’s happened to The Doctor. They don’t even know if they’ll ever see The Doctor again and have no idea that she’s in some maximum-security prison.

Yaz isn’t going to take this well. Gill went onto say that she’s been sent back to a normal life without a say in the matter, and she has a lot of feelings to work through because of that.

However, the three are pulled together to protect the world when a Dalek threat arrives.

When will Doctor Who Season 13 air?

There’s no word on the episodes after the holiday special. Doctor Who was one of the shows shut down due to the coronavirus. Whittaker shared that the cast and crew are in prep work right now, and there’s a lot of hope they’ll be filming before the year ends.
