With Gwynn under Yavalla’s control it’s time for a new commander at The Outpost

The Outpost is back with another episode on The CW and it picks up from the fallout of the previous episode. With Gwynn now under Yavalla’s control our gang of heroes must figure out if they can save Tobin Aegisford or if it is already too late.

The last our heroes saw of Gwynn and Tobin they were embracing after Tobin’s triumphant return with an army to save Gwynn, only to find out that she didn’t want to be saved. Now the question is whether Tobin is already infected by a Kinj or whether Talon and the others still have time to save him.

More from CW

The unlikely alliance of Talon, Garret, Zed, Janzo, and Wren must work together to both save Tobin and the rest of The Outpost while finding a way to put a stop to Yavalla. And with their Queen infected, that means The Outpost could be in real trouble.

The Outpost gets a new commander

Talon and Garret manage to capture Tobin and bring him to Janzo for questioning. They realize he is not infected yet because Gwynn’s Kinj did not yet have time to multiply.

Tobin volunteers to go back to Gwynn and get her to them, and they set a trap for Yavalla that ends in a tense battle in the throne room. Interestingly, during the fight they learn that Zed’s Kinj still works on those Yavalla has infected, but not on Yavalla herself. I’m sure that information is going to come in handy later.

Yavalla and Gwynn surrender, but Yavalla is playing the long game. She has Gwynn infect a rat with a Kinj and then Yavalla controls the rat and forces it to bite Tobin and pass a Kinj into him, making Tobin one of The United. Tobin’s army was the best chance The Outpost had of defeating Yavalla, so losing him is a crushing blow. Also, I really like Tobin and Gwynn so I want them out of Yavalla’s control as soon as possible!

With both Gwynn and Tobin now infected and gone with Yavalla, The Outpost is in a state of confusion and disarray. Blackblood and human soldiers alike are looking for answers and some of them don’t like what they’re hearing.

Zed and Wren attempt to tell everyone what they’ve learned and the truth of what Yavalla is doing but some, especially the Blackfist, are resistant. So it’s up to Talon and Garret to pull everyone together.

Garret reveals he is alive, though this isn’t as impressive of a reveal to the Blackbloods and the Blackfist would like nothing more than to kill him again. But Talon is able to speak to them as someone who is both a Blackblood and who has lived among humans and they finally begin to listen to her.

Talon and Garret standing up above the others making inspiring speeches was actually a pretty impressive site, and it worked on those in The Outpost as well because they decide that Talon should be their new leader. She protests, saying she’s not much of a leader, but she’s proven otherwise and Garret subtly nudges her towards her new role.

The Outpost needs her, so Talon steps up and agrees to lead, but only while they’re in this crisis. She makes Garret her sub-commander for the solders of The Outpost and Zed her sub-commander for the Blackbloods. It looks like Talon managed to reach Yavalla’s idea of peace between humans and Blackbloods after all, and without Yavalla.

Hopefully, this uneasy peace can last long enough to save Gwynn, Tobin, and the others Yavalla infected and bring Yavalla down. It’s a nice message, to see those of two different communities coming together and coexisting. But their peace is still precarious, and one match is all it will take to blow it up again.

Thankfully we’ve seen through the past few seasons that Talon is a great fighter and leader, even if she is a reluctant one. Oftentimes the reluctant leaders are the best ones, and with Garret, Zed, and Janzo helping her there’s a good chance Talon will be able to save everyone.

As reported by Deadline, The Outpost will be getting at least one other season after this so it will be interesting to see Gwynn and Talon’s relationship if and when Gwynn returns and Talon has to relinquish her new leadership position.

Perhaps Gwynn will remain as Queen of The Outpost and Talon will be Queen of the Blackbloods. I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing Talon and Garret as Queen and King if I’m being honest and the Blackbloods could certainly use some new leadership.
