Bravo Team still needs a canine on SEAL Team Season 4

Now that we know what’s happened to Cerberus, we can breathe again. The summer was hard waiting to see the SEAL Team Season 4 premiere, but now we have our answers about our favorite four-legged member of the team.

Cerberus is okay, guys! At least, physically he is. The poor pup is suffering from combat stress and PTSD and has been retired on the show.

More from CBS

In fact, Dita the Hair Missile Dog, who plays Cerberus on the show, was suffering from combat stress. She couldn’t tell that the explosions around her were make-believe, and Justin Melnick, who plays Brock on the show and is Dita’s real-life handler, wanted Dita to be brought out for her own mental health.

I love that Melnick was looking out for her. However, that doesn’t prevent the show having a canine. Teams have dogs. It’s as simple as that. So, a new canine is joining the team.

Justin Melnick has been training Pepper for SEAL Team

If you’ve been keeping a close eye on Instagram, you’ll know that Justin Melnick has been training another dog. Pepper, a Dutch Shepherd, is joining the team. TVLine has confirmed all of our suspicions. She’ll be in the new episode on Wednesday, and she will still be with Melnick.

Not only is the dog called Pepper, but she will get to keep that name on the TV series. This may be linked to training, as it can be difficult for dogs to understand different names. They respond to what they understand.

The name is that of a “special forces dog that died on the Tigres River in Iraq a few years ago,” according to the CBS press release.

Won’t she suffer from combat stress? While Dita is a narcotics dog, Pepper is trained for explosive detection. And yes, combat stress is certainly possible. Dogs don’t remain in the military for as long as humans partly because of this, but this is exactly what Pepper is trained for.

I don’t think this will be the last of Dita, though. She is still part of the family, and she is likely to be around as a civilian dog, showing what happens to the military dogs after they retire. It’s something very few shows offer, so I’m excited to see that.
