You made it! Another weekend is upon us and it’s time to see what new Netflix movies and shows you need to be adding to your watchlists. August is usually one of the slowest months for good new content so we might have to dive a little deeper than normal but that’s ok. We were still able to come up with a list of six new Netflix shows and movies to watch on the weekend of Aug 6-8.

This list has a little bit of everything which is what we try to do. There is an LGBTQ+ themed documentary, a documentary about a drug lord who ran his empire from behind his keyboard, and a children’s movie. No matter what your content of choice is, there is likely something for you listed below.

Before we get there, we have to go back to last week’s list though.

Outer Banks is currently still the hottest show on Netflix one week later. Love is Blind: After the Altar is also in Netflix’s main top 10. Though none of the movies are in the main top 10, both Resort to Love and The Last Mercenary are in the top 10 movies on Netflix. If you missed any, give them a look as well and you now have 10 new options this week.

Speaking of this week’s options.

New Netflix movies and shows this week

  • Pray Away (documentary), Aug. 3
  • Shiny_Flakes: The Teenage Druglord (documentary), Aug. 3
  • Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami: Miniseries, Aug. 4
  • Vivo, Aug. 6
  • The Swarm (2020), Aug. 6
  • Hit & Run: Season 1, Aug. 6

Best show to watch this week

The best show this week was actually chosen for us. Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami: Miniseries is currently number three among the top 10 Netflix shows and movies on the site at the time of this writing. The six-part miniseries tells the true story of two childhood friends who go from high school dropouts to the most powerful drug kingpins in Miami. From Florida native filmmaker Billy Corben (Screwball), the series is filled with great interviews and tells the story of their rise and fall.

Best movie to watch this week

Making a terrible transition, the best movie this week has to be Vivo. The animated tale is a Netflix-Sony collaboration that features brand new original songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton). The story follows a kinkajou who plays music for crowds in a public square with his owner Andres.

However, when tragedy befalls Andres, Vivo partners with a young girl named Gabi to deliver a message for his owner to the legendary musician Marta Sandoval. His former partner. The movie sounds like a lot of fun and promises a ton of good music. It will definitely be on our list!

What will you be watching this weekend? Will it be any of these Netflix movies or shows? If we left out your pick, be sure to let us know!
