Riverdale season 5, episode 13 “Chapter Eighty-Nine: Reservoir Dogs” returned fans to the case of the Lonely Highway Killer after a brief detour into Hiram Lodge’s origin story last week with “Chapter Eighty-Eight: Citizen Lodge.”

The town with pep’s latest dynamic duo, Betty and Tabitha, teamed up to find Jughead in 5B’s opener “Chapter Eighty-Seven: Strange Bedfellows” and have now moved on to rounding up a killer instead of a depressed writer.

Spoilers ahead for Riverdale season 5, episode 13

As Betty remained hot on the killer’s trail, Tabitha kept tabs on her, keeping our fearless sleuth safe on the road. However, a run-in with Glenn gummed up the works of the pair’s plans causing the two to pivot to a new and more flashy idea.

Instead of finding the killer themselves, they’d lure him to Riverdale with the promise of entertainment and young women ripe for the picking. Yes, they set a honey trap, one that paid homage to the classic Coyote Ugly and dripped with an anthem made famous by the ’80s glam metal band Poison.

Did Betty and Tabitha’s honey trap work in Riverdale season 5, episode 13?

Together with Veronica and Cheryl, Betty and Tabitha transformed into the Whyte Wyrm’s Wild Foxes. They sang and danced as Alice served drinks and Kevin and Reggie scoped out the trucks looking for any clue that the killer was among their gathering.

Unfortunately, when the night came to a close, the only thing the group had to show for their work was an aggravated trucker whose bloody truck hold was due to transporting meat. Betty, however, hadn’t lost hope yet and was interested in trying again come the following night. That is until one lone trucker pulled up to Pop’s after the festivities.

Spotting blood on his vehicle, Betty played the part of an interested woman looking for a good time and hopped in the cab at the trucker’s invitation. It was a reckless decision for sure, but she did have the wherewithal to text Tabitha to trail them.

It’s a good thing Betty did because this trucker had a fondness for watching the light pass out of someone’s eyes. The more he talked about watching someone die, the higher the tension rose until the trucker proceeded to attack Betty, first with a knife and then with a chainsaw.

Considering this was not our favorite sleuth’s first tussle with a killer, and likely not her last, it’s no surprise she eventually knocked the trucker unconscious. She, however, didn’t turn him over to the authorities.

Did Betty really capture the Lonely Highway Killer?

I’m assuming the man Betty captured is the infamous Lonely Highway Killer, but it’s possible this story is about to twist once again. Betty told Tabitha she wanted to get answers out of the man about her sister, Polly, before turning him in. Knowing how she operates, whoever this trucker is, he’s going to be very sorry he ever crossed paths with Betty Cooper.

But if he’s not the killer she’s been looking for, could Betty have simply attracted yet another person up to no good? The poor woman seems to be a magnet for all things macabre, unsettling, and dealing with murder. In any case, he’ll be one less person harming women on the road, so that at least is a win.

Hopefully, through whatever means Betty uses to get answers, we’ll learn next episode what happened to her sister and the other women that have gone missing on the Lonely Highway. Until then, stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more Riverdale news and coverage!
