Alright, TV lovers, Fall TV on Fox has kicked off with the return of 9-1-1 for their fifth season on Monday and the premiere of The Big Leap starring Scott Foley. But you’re going to want to pencil in more space for TV watching on Tuesdays because after season 5 of The Resident makes its debut, Yaya Dacosta is taking over the 9 o’clock slot with her new drama, Our Kind of People.
The former America’s Next Top Model contestant has come a long way from strutting down the catwalk in the latest fashions. Fans of NBC’s Chicago Med know the actress as April Sexton, an ER nurse who makes the ship at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center run as smooth as any emergency department can along with the rest of her co-workers and friends.
Now DaCosta will be stepping into the shoes of Angela Vaughn, a hair care expert and entrepreneur whose recent move to the affluent Black community of Oak Bluffs is set to ruffle some feathers and shake the table.
Also starring Morris Chesnut, Nadine Ellis, Joe Morton, Debbie Morgan, L. Scott Caldwell, and Lance Gross, Our Kind of People shows how the other half live from backstabbing to power struggles all with a smile as sharp as a knife.

"Written by Gist inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s provocative, critically praised book Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class, the series takes place in the aspirational world of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, a historical stronghold where the rich and powerful black elite have come to play for more than 50 years.Our Kind of People follows strong-willed, single mom Angela Vaughn as she sets out to reclaim her family’s name and make an impact with her revolutionary haircare line that highlights the innate, natural beauty of black women. But she soon discovers a dark secret about her mother’s past that will turn her world upside-down and shake up this community forever."
