It’s a Friday, we finally made it and I can’t believe I get to see your face. That’s my John Mayer tribute to Tom Hardy. The weekend is here and we list the best new movies in theaters and films available on streaming services you don’t want to miss.

The movie that was coming out this year, then wasn’t, then was and wasn’t again has finally arrived, today it’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage. I’ll be honest. I could probably use that line each week as often as some of these have been pushed. I seemed to be in the minority in saying I liked the first one, but I enjoyed Tom Hardy in the role and look forward to this one.

I talked last week about how we only had one new release in theaters. Well, this week, 1.3 million other movies are coming out in theaters. From a prequel to The Sopranos to the return of The Addams Family to a documentary about Christian Music, all ages are covered this week.

We’ve got the debut of a Soprano, a creepy-looking superhero and Jake Gyllenhaal answering 911 calls dropping this week.

Check out the movies available this weekend, beginning Oct. 1, 2021.

New movies in theaters to watch this weekend

  • Venom: Let There Be Carnage
  • The Addams Family 2  (Available on VOD)
  • The Jesus Music
  • The Many Saints of Newark
  • Old Henry (Limited)
  • Titane (Limited)

I do love weeks like this when you have options for all audiences. I will toss in a little biased opinion on Old Henry. If you have a local arthouse theater style in your area and are a fan of westerns, please seek out this film because it is incredible.

  • The Guilty (Netflix)
  • The Many Saints of Newark (HBO Max)

As Jake Gyllenhaal Fanclub president, I am excited to see him in a movie again. The film debuted at TIFF to a massive amount of praise where we see Jake play a 911 call operator who is trying to save a distressed caller.
