What happens at the end of Ti West’s X movie? Breaking down that bloody bonkers second half

Ti West’s X movie is now playing in theaters and leaving horror fans very satisfied. Will you be watching the movie this weekend? Final spoiler warning! Watch X in theaters before reading ahead. 

X follows a wannabe indie film crew who rent a farmhouse in rural Texas to shoot “The Farmer’s Daughters,” a porn movie. The farmhouse belongs to en elderly couple who live in another home directly across. They seemingly have no idea what the young film crew are there to do, but they do have their own plans and sinister intentions. Now, the first part of the movie takes its time setting up the story, introducing the characters, and giving everyone a false sense of security. Because, we all know that violence and horrors are about to unfold — and boy do they!

The second part of the movie is packed with brilliant and entertaining kills, cringe-worthy moments, and a ton of gore. Let’s break down what happens at the end of the movie.

What happens at the end of Ti West’s X movie?

I really thought there was going to be something supernatural revealed. Maybe Pearl, the old lady, was possessed or was a demon herself. But guys, this really is a movie about an old lady wanting to get laid, huh? Pearl wants to feel special, beautiful, and loved. Not only has her time passed (by a mile), but, unfortunately, her husband Howard is unable to…perform. He has a weak heart and would be risking death. The solution? Kidnap younger men (or in X‘s case, a woman) for the desperate Pearl.

Pearl does manage to convince Howard to have sex with her, and they are successful. But coming out of that high leaves Howard weak, so he suffers a heart attack when Lorraine’s dead body twitches. That scare is enough to send Howard’s heart racing and he dies.

Maxine then gets into Howard’s truck and drives off, but not before putting the truck in reverse and running over Pearl’s head, which satisfyingly pops. And just before this, we learn that Maxine is the daughter or the preacher of a church (cult?). Yeah, crazy!
