With the abundance of revivals, reboots, and spinoffs of beloved TV shows and movies in recent years, all eyes have been on the status of Gavin & Stacey, the BBC comedy that ran for three seasons between 2007 and 2010. Of course, fans know that the gang did get back together for a Christmas special in late 2019, leaving everyone wanting more.

Will there be another reunion special or revival for the sitcom in our future? James Corden is now weighing in, leaving fans hopeful at the possibility.

As reported by the Rhyl Journal on Wednesday, the 43-year-old comedian spoke with Vernon Kay on BBC Radio 2, where he addressed his feelings on returning to Gavin & Stacey. The good news is he seems like he’d be open to another special. But the bad news? Perhaps his former co-star Ruth Jones doesn’t feel the same. Of course, fans are concerned about the storyline of the show, as the Christmas special ended on a very big cliffhanger.

It seems Corden is leaving the decision to revisit Gavin & Stacey up to Jones at the moment.

“I wish I could say it’s up to me. The best thing about Gavin & Stacey is that it’s Ruth and I, and, if I’m being completely honest, her judgment is exceptional,” Corden said. “I realise the ending of that special does very definitely tease something else. It’s always been the two of us, it’s always been and we can’t write separately.” He added:

"“I trust her so much. She is, I think, a genius… I would be excited just to be in a room with her. I’m going to see her this summer, but I doubt we’ll talk about the show. The last few times we’ve talked we haven’t even mentioned it really… it’s always a friendship first. I’m so proud of the fact – what are we now, 15 years on or whatever? – we love each other so much and our families and all those things, so she’ll know when it’s right and together we’ll figure it out. If that ever happens, but I do think it’s a big if, I don’t think it’s a when.”"

In case you missed it, Gavin & Stacey fans had been speculating there’s the chance for another revival after news broke that Corden would be leaving his American talk show, The Late Late Show on CBS, in 2023. As for what’s next for him, it seems his schedule is relatively clear for the time being, having only one upcoming show called Mammals set on his acting list. In his latest interview, he even noted he would  have “a bit more free time” coming up.

As for Jones, she currently doesn’t have any upcoming acting gigs on her

, leaving many wondering why the two actors wouldn’t get back together for another reunion.

At this time, it looks like the door is

reunion, though it’ll be Jones’ decision. At least we can find solace in the fact that Corden would be open to it.
