Yellowjackets season 2 ending explained: Breaking down the biggest moments of season 2

The second season of Showtime‘s hit series Yellowjackets has finally arrived! Admittedly, as much as I loved the first season, I was left feeling a bit frustrated by the lack of answers. If anything viewers had more questions after the season 1 finale than the premiere episode. So, this season, I’m going to do a better job at keeping up with the events by stopping this post weekly with a breakdown. Join me in this Yellowjackets season 2 ending feature!
Yellowjackets follows a girls high school soccer team traveling from New jersey to their soccer tournament. Unfortunately, their plane crashes in wilderness somewhere in Canada. The survivors are stranded and in the wilderness for 19 months. How were they able to survive for so long? They claim to have scavenged what they could, but we know there’s more to it. The series goes back and forth between the present day and the ’90s, when the crash happened.

Two important things to note! First, this goes without saying, but there are significant spoilers ahead as we break down the ending of each episode in season 2 (updated weekly). Don’t read if you have yet to watch the latest episode. Secondly, I won’t be recapping each episode. In each breakdown, I assume if you are here it is because you’ve watched the episode and are ready to dive right in with me.
Why did Lottie kidnap Natalie in Yellowjackets?
Call it what you want, but Lottie Matthews (Simone Kessell) is the leader of a cult. Adult Lottie appears to be at peace and to have good intentions, but I’m trusting no one this season. We still don’t know how or where she is getting these visions from. As for why Lottie’s people kidnapped Natalie (Juliette Lewis), Lottie reveals she has a message for her from Travis. And the reason they took her so violently is because they saw that Natalie had a gun and was about to commit suicide. It makes sense, but I still don’t trust Lottie.
Will Callie tell the police about Shauna and Adam?
Meanwhile, Jeff (Warren Kole) and Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) are burning Adam’s belongings, from his notebooks to his ID. This is after destroying his artwork, which featured portraits of Shauna. The fire didn’t destroy all of Adam’s possessions, though. A suspicious Callie (Sarah Desjardins), Shauna and Jeff’s daughter, checks out the grill and finds what’s left of Adam’s ID.
Why did Shauna eat Jackie’s ear in Yellowjackets season 2 episode 1?
Finally, possibly the biggest moment in season 2 episode 1, is Shauna’s interesting snack, Jackie’s ear! As if talking to Jackie’s dead corpse wasn’t bonkers enough, Shauna eats her BFFs ear. It fell off while moving Jackie’s body, so Shauna decides to keep it. A memento, perhaps? Probably not, because Shauna chomps it down.
Yellowjackets season 2 episode 2 premieres on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, March 31, and airs on the Showtime network on Sunday, April 2, at 9 p.m. ET.
