American Idol 2023: Who made the Top 5 and who went home?
* Click here to see who from the Top 5 made it into the Top 3 *
The number of contestants on American Idol just keeps getting smaller and smaller! Though the judges saved Oliver Steele from elimination last week to give us the Top 8 instead of the expected Top 7, there aren’t many hopefuls left in the competition. And it’s just going to continue to get more brutal. Tonight, we’re getting the Top 5.
This evening’s episode had some special guests who also took on judging duties alongside Luke Bryan! Alanis Morissette mentored the remaining artists, performed on stage, and served as a guest judge. The other exciting celeb was Ed Sheeran! He also took to the stage, and was a guest judge as well.
That’s because Katy Perry and Lionel Richie took part in the Coronation Concert in London for King Charles III’s coronation ceremony. Though, they did virtually check in periodically throughout the episode from the Coronation party (and the newly crowned king and queen popped in as well!).
But that’s ok! We love having Alanis and Ed on the show. Both provided great feedback and help to the contestants. So who is moving on the competition? Whose Idol journey had to end? Check out the full list (and photos!) below!

As we have less and less contestants now, and we’re inching closer to the American Idol 2023 finale, the show is not airing a new episode tomorrow, May 8. The ABC series won’t be back until next Sunday, May 14, for Disney Night! The Top 5 will perform live at the Disneyland Resort to gain our votes at home for the chance to make it into the finale. Next week is a big one as we’ll find out who makes it into the Top 3! Who do you think it will be?
American Idol airs a new episode next Sunday, May 14, 2023, on ABC.
