Outlander season 7: What does Vir Meus mean?

Outlander fans, what a premiere episode! Am I right? We’ve been on pins and needles since the season 6 finale aired and left us with the big cliffhanger of Claire arrested. Thankfully though, Outlander season 7 is here and brings us the continuation of the story!

In the premiere, we pick up where we left off. Jamie and Young Ian make their way to Wilmington to get Claire out of jail after she was wrongfully arrested for the murder of Malva Christie. Thanks to the retched Richard Brown. But before they get to her, she’s taken by the British soldiers on Governor Martin’s orders.

Our favorite doctor’s healing skills are needed for the governor’s wife who is pregnant. Due to the ongoing unrest that we know will lead to the American Revolution, there’s no healers nearby other than Claire and the political couple is forced to be “in hiding” on the ship.

While Jamie isn’t in Wilmington just yet, Tom Christie is. And he receives a note from Claire that has a list of items she needs for the governor’s wife. One of them is “Vir Meus.” What does it mean? We’ve got the answer for you below!

Outlander season 7: What does Vir Meus mean?

The phrase “Vir Meus” is Latin. We know just how well-spoken the Outlander characters are and how many of them know more than one language. Thankfully, Latin is one both Claire and Tom know. It’s a hidden message from Claire to Tom that’s been written on those list of items.

At first, Tom is excited to see a note from Claire, what with his “great love” for her. Though as he’s reading through the list, you can see his face fall when reading the phrase. So what does it mean? “Vir Meus” literally translates to “my man” from Latin to English. In this case and in the episode itself, the Christie patriarch says it means “my husband” when Jamie finally makes it there and comes across Tom. Of course we all know that Claire would be asking for Jamie to come and rescue her. If there’s one thing this couple is good at, it’s saving each other!
