Counting down to FBI season 6: What to know before the premiere in February 2024

Updated: Nov. 20, 2023 – Set your calendars, FBI season 6 premieres Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. ET on the CBS. The flagship series will kick off the three hour block fans of the franchise have come to expect on Tuesdays that includes International and Most Wanted.

The Hollywood strikes, which saw writers and actors alike fighting for fair agreements with the AMPTP, lasted through the summer and into the fall. That’s why the Big 5 networks have looked so different in their primetime blocks. But with the strikes over, we can count on seeing our favorite shows make returns in 2024.

FBI‘s new season is a part of a packed February release schedule for CBS, so if you’re a fan of the channel, prepare for a smorgasbord of content for the network’s shows come the second month of the year. For those of us that love watching Maggie Bell, OA Zidan, Stuart Scola, and Tiffany Wallace every week, that means more intriguing, heart pounding and, at times, heartbreaking cases as they bring criminals to justice. Here’s what we know about the upcoming season!

Is FBI season 6 filming?

With the SAG-AFTRA strike coming to a close in November, productions are getting up and running. A part of the earliest wave is FBI. They’re not filming yet but, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the show is expected to begin filming sometime in November. A date has yet to be confirmed though, with December quickly approaching, it’ll likely be the week of Nov. 27.

We can expect a 13 episode season for FBI season 6. While this will surely come as a disappointment to fans hoping for the standard 22 episodes, the episode reduction is to ensure that the show’s sixth season finishes in May instead of running into the summer. The series does have precedence for a shorter season. Season 3, which had 15 episodes, was the shortest season of the series until this point and it’s arguably the best one so far.

Shantel VanSanten is headed to FBI: Most Wanted

Deadline reports there’s been a cast shake-up in the FBI franchise. Shantel VanSanten will be a part of the FBI: Most Wanted cast for its fifth season. She’ll be reprising the role of Nina Chase so there will be continuity. Information on the reason for Nina’s move to the task force’s team has yet to be shared. However, VanSanten could be filling the hole left by Alexa Davalos exiting the series after season 4. Davalos had played Kristin Gaines.

We’ll keep you posted on whether or not VanSanten’s hop to another series in the franchise means we’ll be bidding farewell to Nina for season 6 of FBI or if the actress will be pulling double duty. What we know right now is that Scola and Nina are still in a relationship and raising their son, Douglas, as a couple.

FBI season 5 ending explained

Per TVLine, in a scary turn of events, Special Agent Stuart Scola and Agent Nina Chase were put in a difficult place when Nina was diagnosed with listeria, a bacterial infection, which was at risk of spreading to her placenta. Their baby’s heart rate was beginning to drop so the doctors began to administer antibiotics to Nina as they monitored the baby. Scola and Nina were told that labor may have to be induced even though their child was one month from the due date.

As Nina and the baby’s condition began to worsen, Scola was told that there may come a point where they may only be able to save one of them. He had to make a choice on who should be the medical priority if the situation called for that, and he chose Nina. Thankfully, they were able to save both of them. Nina and Scola had a little boy they named Douglas after Scola’s late brother.
