911: Lone Star’s showrunner is speaking up about the possible spin-off idea that could have a different tone than the main series!
911: Lone Star fans are still let down that the series is ending after five seasons. It did go out on a high note for the characters: Tommy recovered from her cancer, Judd became the new captain, Marjan was pregnant, TK and Carlos had adopted their foster son with TK taking a break from the job, Mateo’s citizenship was fast-tracked and Owen had become New York City’s Fire Chief.
A 911 spin-off is in the works
While fans were still hoping for at least one more year, it was a good way to wrap the series up. This won’t be the end of the 911 world, as plans are underway for another spin-off. We don’t know specifics yet but speaking to TV Insider, showrunner Rashad Raisani shared some hints.
“I think that it will have a different tone. It will still hopefully feel like our DNA, but in the same way that Lone Star was different than 9-1-1 and had its own feel, I think that if we can get this right, this will have its own feel.”
A different tone would make sense given this would be in a different location. It sounds like Hawaii may be a top contender, but there are also plenty of cities that could be home to a 911 show. Each would have a vibrant feel and shift things up.
Lone Star used the Texas setting well, including a big arc set during the 2022 winter storms that paralyzed the state. A city that has more winter weather would mean different types of emergencies. It could also mean a city with a distinct history that can play into storylines.
That’s a fun touch even as fans hope some characters from Lone Star can make their way to a new show.
Can some 911: Lone Star characters come to the spin-off?
Naturally, fans are hopeful a spinoff could bring some 911: Lone Star characters over to continue their stories. Given that pretty much all the main characters on the show survived, Raisani said "I don’t see why not. I would love it.”
As it happens, one suggested alternate ending for the series finale would have been the perfect spinoff fodder for two of the show’s most popular characters.
“We had talked about T.K. and Carlos maybe moving to a new city and starting a new life together somewhere else in Texas to set up a possible spinoff.”
That would still work for a new show as the pair may want a fresh start in a new city. TK clearly misses the job and a new state would give him a chance to balance firefighting and being a dad. Carlos can also find a job as a cop without being in his dad’s shadow so much.
Right now, the plans for the spinoff are still in the early stages. But it sounds like we’d have some good potential for a fun new ride with a new feel while still keeping to the action and drama fans of 911: Lone Star have come to love.
