Shortly after 911 ended season 9 with an unexpected twist and 911: Nashville concluded its debut season with a long-time-coming fight, there's already some exciting news to share with fans about the upcoming new seasons and how many episodes we will get to enjoy.
There's still a long wait ahead until 911 season 10 and 911: Nashville season 2 premiere on ABC this fall, but there's nothing stopping fans from looking ahead to what's next and predicting what to expect. Not only do we have single-father Buck to look forward to after he took in his birth son Theo, but over in Nashville, Blythe and Dixie's feud will be in a completely new place.
Each season, there's always a question about how many episodes 911 will receive, and now that the series has another companion spinoff, that question has doubled all over again. Here's where that exciting news about the episode counts comes in. While most shows on the small screen are facing budget cuts and reduced orders, that might not be the case of the 911 shows!

911 and 911: Nashville expected to have full season orders
ABC made the announcement of a new Texas-set Grey's Anatomy spinoff, which further expands the long-running medical drama's franchise with a third offshoot. The series has earned a straight-to-series order and will debut in midseason sometime in 2027. But what does this have to do with the 911 shows? Well, even with another show on ABC's schedule, full seasons are still expected.
In Deadline's reporting of the forthcoming and as-yet-untitled Grey's Anatomy spinoff, the outlet revealed that ABC is believed to have picked up both 911 season 10 and 911: Nashville season 2 with full season orders, which would mean 18 episodes each. Nashville's debut season featured 18 episodes, the new standard "full season" for the franchise, and 911 season 9 followed suit.
Throughout its run, 911 has had an unpredictable amount of episodes each season. When the series premiered on Fox back in January 2018, the first season only contained 10 episodes. From there, seasons 2 and 3 boasted 18-episode full seasons, while season 4 was trimmed to 14 episodes in the wake of pandemic delays. Seasons 5 and 6 boosted back up to 18 episodes, then season 7 fell back down to 10 due to the strikes and its move to ABC. Ever since, it's been 18-episode orders.
Obviously, the addition of another new show, and one so closely related to ABC's longest-running drama series, could cause concern that either 911 show could have its episode count slashed in order to make room on Thursday night. However, Deadline suggests that Grey's Anatomy and its spinoff won't air together. Instead, season 23 will likely have a reduced episode count due to budget cuts, air in the fall, and make way for the spinoff to air in its timeslot in 2027.
The good news for 911 fans comes with some not-so-great news for Grey's Anatomy fans when it comes to the new season of the flagship drama. But at least ABC will be making up for the shortened order with a brand-new series. And who knows, since Grey's will have fewer episodes in season 23, maybe that will mean Ellen Pompeo could appear in more episodes, if not all of them.
We'll be sure to share more news and updates on 911 season 10 and 911: Nashville season 2, including their official episode counts, as production gets underway this summer!
