FOX's 2024-2025 TV schedule is packed! So packed in fact that there are a total of 13 shows that have been held for the midseason. Why? Well, the network is looking to find a sweet spot in the balance they've managed in their programming slate. On offer for the Fall TV season is a mix of scripted, unscripted, and animated series.

Leading the pack in the fall is the return of 911: Lone Star which has been paired with freshman lifeguard drama, Rescue: HI-Surf. Joining the roster is the Canadian co-production Murder in a Small Town. It's pairing with Accused season 2 should play well for FOX's audience. That's just the first two primetime nights on Mondays and Tuesdays. From there we'll be treated to unscripted fare like The Floor's second season and a third season of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test.

All of that sounds well and good including a new season of The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers that's coming with the series premiere of Universal Basic Guys, but there are noticeable absences from the Fall TV schedule that may disappoint fans. In some cases it won't be because the delayed premieres are unexpected but rather there was hope that they might slide into a fall slot. In total there are about six shows we wish were coming in the fall.

Family Guy season 23

In an unexpected move, FOX won't be premiering a new season of Family Guy in the fall like it has for years. The animated series is, however, reportedly moving back to Sundays when it does return. While fans will have to contend with only having season 22 in 2024, there are two planned holiday specials in the works that are going to Hulu in December. For those in fear that this change means that the long running program could be nearing its end, don't be. There's been a clear signal that this show and the rest of the animation block aren't going anywhere.

Alert: Missing Persons Unit season 3

This delay isn't a surprise. Alert: Missing Persons Unit has traditionally premiered in the midseason, however, it must be noted that season 3 is going to be filmed back-to-back with the show's second season. The continuous production is to ensure that episodes are banked just in case the IATSE does strike this summer if they can't reach a fair agreement with the AMPTP. If a strike does happen, this does mean that Alert won't be affected. There's also a possibility that it could get moved to a Fall TV debut if FOX needs to put together a strike affected schedule.

The Cleaning Lady season 4

Fans of The Cleaning Lady will have to wait for the show's fourth season. The crime drama had made a fall premiere for its second season but got pushed to the midseason for its third due to the Hollywood strikes. It's possible season 4 isn't coming until 2025 because of behind-the-scenes shake-ups. Co-showrunners Miranda Kwok and Jeannine Renshaw won't be returning to the series in that capacity which means the search is on for a new showrunner as the crime drama is preparing for its first season without the planned inclusion of Adan Canto, who sadly passed in January 2024.

Animal Control season 3

Like Alert: Missing Persons Unit, the Joel McHale-led comedy Animal Control's midseason release for its third season was expected. Nonetheless, its absence is surely going to be felt by those who'd like to have a live-action comedy to watch on FOX. The laughs the network is providing in Fall 2024 will all stem from their animated block.

Going Dutch

For those looking to enjoy another live-action comedy on FOX, Going Dutch will premiere in the midseason along with Animal Control. The series, led by Denis Leary, is set on a U.S. Army base in the Netherlands. Leary plays a colonel whose mouth signs, seals, and delivers him to the unit as a punishment. While there, he'll be getting the soldiers in shape which will be no small feat since the base cares more about the amenities than it does military precision. But, he will have the help of his estranged daughter. She'd been the interim lead before he arrived.

Doc

Come 2025, FOX will be introducing a new medical drama to its viewers. Doc has an interesting premise as it follows Dr. Amy Larsen, the Chief of Internal and Family Medicine at a Minneapolis hospital, who suffers a major brain injury. When she awakes, she learns that she's lost nearly a decade of her life and so much has changed. She divorced her soul mate, her daughter is a teenager, and she lost her son. As she tries to piece together the past and move forward in the life she has now, Amy will also be practicing medicine and relearning the knowledge she'd gained after years of study and working with patients.

Also coming in 2025: Crime Scene Kitchen season 3, Extracted, The Great North season 5, LEGO Masters season 5, MasterChef season 15, Name That Tune season 5, and Next Level Chef season 4.
