911 season 7 will have a crossover but not with Lone Star

911 may not cross over with the Lone Star spinoff this year but there can be a surprise crossover with a notable ABC show!

911 may not be doing a crossover with Lone Star this new season…but is it possible another ABC hit may have a surprising link to this show? Find out more here!

The procedural had been one of Fox's best successes to the point of inspiring a spinoff show, Lone Star. Crossovers between the shows weren't common, which makes sense as 911 is set in Los Angeles while Lone Star is in Austin, Texas, but there were characters from both shows making appearances now and then.

However, when 911 was surprisingly canceled by Fox and picked up by ABC, the crossover potential took a hit. It's rare for a show to be on one network and a spinoff on another, and with Lone Star being held back until the fall, it seems harder to believe there can be a crossover appearance somehow.

Yet it sounds like there will be some sort of connection between 911 and another big show on ABC. Could we be seeing a unique mix of firefighters and cops soon?

Could we be seeing 911 and The Rookie cross over?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly on the new season 7, showrunner Tim Minear confirmed there won't be a crossover with Lone Star. It makes sense as not only the logistics between networks but with only 10 episodes for season 7, there's no room for a crossover event with the two shows.

However, Minear did hint there would be a crossover, likely with another ABC show.

"And we are doing kind of a crossover on 9-1-1 But it's not with Lone Star. Is it The Rookie?... Probably not, since I just said The Rookie."

Minear's words indicate there won't be a crossover with The Rookie unless he's making a joke. There is a strong possibility ABC might decide to link all Thursday night shows by having 911 do a big event with Grey's Anatomy and/or Station 19.

That's tricky as those two shows are set in Seattle, yet some sort of "West Coast disaster" might link them up. It's also possible that with Station 19 ending, one of those characters might move to L.A. and join the 118.

Linking The Rookie and 911 together would actually make the most sense as both shows are set in Los Angeles and the cops and firefighters joining on a single case makes sense (see the One Chicago series). It can be set up by Bailey (Jenna Dewan) mentioning knowing the 118 crew and then uniting to aid in some disaster.

Of all the shows on the ABC lineup, The Rookie fits into the 911 world well, and it would be fun. With The Rookie: Feds canceled, the mothership show could branch out more. It's still in the planning stages, and this is alone a tease, but seeing a 911-Rookie crossover could make the move to ABC even better for the rescue series.

911 season 7 premieres Thursday March 14 at 8/7c on ABC.
