The search for Katy Perry's replacement on American Idol continues! The Pop star put forth Jelly Roll as a candidate if she could choose her successor, but it's expected that it'll be a female artist who occupies the judge's seat Perry once held. Longtime fans have wondered if a judge might be chosen from the American Idol family so, of course, the idea that Kelly Clarkson would be tapped has circulated. But, unfortunately, she's ruled out the possibility.

Clarkson is the most famous contestant the singing competition has ever had. She won the very first Idol bout and, though the series has made plenty of its winners and participants stars, her career is unparalleled. She has so much to offer artists fighting to make their mark in the world and has the experience of going through the stress of a competition that will test your talent and your will; Clarkson showed as much when she was a judge on The Voice. But right now isn't the time for her to be a judge on American Idol. Why? The show's location and her kids.

Deadline reports, that in an Entertainment Tonight interview at the Daytime Emmy Awards, Clarkson shot down any hope that she'd join the competition series in the near future.

"I can’t do that, only because I promised my kids. I was like, ‘I wanna be there as much as I possibly can. And it would put me in L.A., and that’s why I had to quit The Voice, which I love that team. And I miss them so much."

Clarkson has been open about her need for a "fresh start" after her divorce from Brandon Blackstock. In the wake of that major life change for herself and her kids, she moved to New York and was able to bring her award-winning talk show with her. At the Daytime Emmys, during her acceptance speech for Outstanding Daytime Talk Show Series, she publicly thanked NBC and everyone who made it possible for her to move the show from one coast to the other which is no small feat.

A key part of that speech was the emphasis on mental health. Clarkson's struggle was taken seriously and plans were put in place for her to be able to prioritize her needs and that of her family while still keeping in mind the demands of The Kelly Clarkson Show, its team, and the network. Five seasons in, and post-the big move, the talk show is still thriving and so are Clarkson and her kids. As she put it to Entertainment Tonight:

"I wanted a life for us. And we enjoy the park every day, and we enjoy each other. As a parent — people get this — you only get so much time until they don’t want to hang out with you. That’s the reason [I can’t do Idol]. It’s my kiddos."

Given Clarkson's words, unless there's a singing competition series happening in New York, we're not likely to see her as a judge anytime soon. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more news and coverage!
