A NCIS and NCIS: Tony and Ziva crossover may be in the works, NCIS boss teases possibility
With a new NCIS show set, can we see Tony and Ziva crossing over with the regular NCIS crew? It sure seems like it can happen!
The NCIS franchise remains successful, with Season 22 set for this fall, and NCIS: Sydney is set to return in midseason. However, fans are still angry at the cancellation of NCIS: Hawaii with no warning (and a cliffhanger to boot), even as NCIS: Origins looks at the younger days of Gibbs.
Also being set is a new spin-off focusing on Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo) as they find themselves on an adventure in Europe. It’s a fun idea to reunite the fan-favorite couple and put them in a wild spy adventure.
It sounds like the show is going to be a stand-alone series as the pair (running their own private security firm) run into some trouble and are soon traveling around Europe. There’s hope for some cameos from some NCIS actors past and present (dare we hope Gibbs?) and obviously touches on the duo’s long history.
So could there be a full crossover with the regular NCIS shows to further link Tony and Ziva’s quest?
Can we see an NCIS/Tony & Ziva crossover happen?
Speaking to TV Line, NCIS co-showrunner Steven D. Binder gave hope that such a crossover could indeed happen.
"Let’s put it this way: I would love to do that. And I have a feeling Michael [Weatherly] would be up for anything like that. I’m open to any ideas anybody has. They are totally welcome to throw them at me."
It would be great to see the shows link, especially since with NCIS: Hawaii gone, we need another modern show to cross over (it’s pretty hard for the 1990s-set NCIS: Origins to do so). It would be logical for the team, especially McGee, to want to help Tony and Ziva with whatever jam they’ve gotten into.
If Binder wants ideas, something to wrap up that cliffhanger from NCIS: Hawaii would be a great place to start. The show deserved more seasons and at least some closure to what Jane would have been up to with former mentor Maggie. Some sort of big threat uniting all the teams would make for a great storyline.
So far, production is just underway for the Tony & Ziva spin-off so it’s early yet. But having the fan-favorite pair finally popping up on the mothership NCIS show would be a sensational turn for fans and push the franchise more.
