Surprise! Abbott Elementary will air a new episode right after Oscars 2024: Here's how and when to watch

If you're like me and follow the schedule of Abbott Elementary season 3 religiously and eagerly await new episodes, you probably noticed that this past Wednesday on March 6 there was no new episode on ABC. Well, there's a reason for that! Abbott Elementary will debut a new episode right after the Oscars 2024 awards ceremony.

So when is that? Abbott Elementary airs a new episode on Sunday, March 10, 2024 after Oscars 2024. While it may seem strange to change up the date for this episode from Wednesday to Sunday, it's actually a very smart idea on the network's end. It's expected that many viewers will be tuning in to the Oscars (check out our watch guide here!), and those viewers are likely to stick around to watch Abbott Elementary afterwards. The comedy is already a huge hit on ABC, and this might help expose it even more for those who haven't checked it out yet. Keep reading for details on how to tune in!

The 2024 Academy Awards are expected to go on for around three and a half hours and wrap up at 10:30 p.m. ET. So that means the new episode of Abbott Elementary, season 3 episode 6, will air starting at 10:32 p.m. ET and end at around 11:02 p.m. ET on ABC.

While the network has a couple of minutes between the Oscars and the comedy, don't be surprised if the awards ceremony goes a bit long, and the sitcom is delayed by a few minutes. It's possible the Academy Awards will go a little bit over time. What to expect (plus new photos!)

Above we already shared some of the first-look images, and there's more below. Abbott Elementary season 3 episode 6, "Willard R. Abbott," will see the school "deemed a Philadelphia historical landmark," per the synopsis. Ava and Janine are very excited about this, but Barbara and Melissa are "not as impressed." These two usually have the wisdom behind their reasoning. I wonder why this news hasn't impacted them in a positive way. Hmm...

The group decides to host a celebration in honor of Willard R. Abbott, which the school is named after. But, some things don't go as planned. It looks like actress June Diane Raphael will be guest starring once again, most likely back for the celebration. If you think back, she plays Elizabeth Washington who is the Chief Education Officer for the Philadelphia Board of Education. The actress previously appeared in season 2 episode 20, "Educator of the Year."

So for the one night, Abbott is moving to a Sunday night and we couldn't be more excited! Of course that does mean we've had to wait a little bit longer for a new episode. But that's ok, it's coming soon. Plus, technically this week we get two episodes so I'm not going to complain. Read on below for the details!

Will Abbott Elementary air a new episode on March 13, 2024?

So the great news is that the series will also premiere a new episode on Wednesday next week. So yes, Abbott Elementary will be new on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 in addition to the new installment on Sunday! This is the show's regular time slot, and we get double the Abbott. You definitely won't hear me complaining.

Season 3 episode 7, "Librarian," airs at 9 p.m. ET. Janine "spearheads a pilot program that brings a librarian to Abbott," per the synopsis. BUt things don't go smoothly when "friction arises" between the librarian and one of the teachers. This will put Janine in a tough spot between the two. Elsewhere, Melissa and Jacob "deal with some big changes at home."

Abbott Elementary season 3 airs new episodes Wednesday nights on ABC. Catch a special broadcast on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at around 10:32 p.m. ET after Oscars 2024. Stream the next day on Hulu.
