American Idol is not new tonight (Here's why the show is skipping Monday night's episode)
Sometimes broadcast schedules can really throw us off because they're not linear and clear like streaming TV. But that's ok, that's what I'm here for! To keep you right on track. The past few weeks, we've gotten used to having American Idol on our screens not once, but twice a week.
It's been one new episode on Sunday and another on Monday night. The competition has certainly been heart-racing and nail-biting as the contestants dwindle down pretty quickly. Well tonight, May 6, 2024, there is no new episode of the competition series. Why is that the case?
American Idol won't be airing on Mondays anymore
Don't worry, there's nothing out of the ordinary. If you remember early in the season during the auditions, Hawaii, and Hollywood Week, the show was only on once a week on Sundays. Then when the live shows started, Idol moved to two nights. Now that there's the Top 5 and less contestants competing, that does mean there's a scheduling change going forward and that American Idol will not be airing new episodes on Monday nights anymore for the rest of the season. New episodes will only air on Sundays. In fact, we don't have much to go now, only two more episodes left in season 22:
- Sunday, May 12: Disney Night (Top 5 perform, results for Top 3 revealed)
- Sunday, May 19: Grand Finale (Top 3 perform, American Idol winner revealed)
So the next new episode is Sunday, May 12. American Idol 2024 is taking the Top 5 to Walt Disney World for the highly-anticipated Disney Night episode! Is there anyone who doesn't love the iconic fairytales and tunes from the beloved movies? Each of the contestants will perform two songs from the Disney Songbook, per the synopsis. During the episode, it's our job to vote for our favorites to find out who is making it into the Top 3 by the end of the night before the three-hour finale the following week. Be sure to tune in to the Disney-filled episode from 8 p.m. ET to 10 p.m. ET on ABC. Episodes are available to stream on Hulu the next day.
As a reminder, currently it's Platinum Ticket winner Abi Carter, Jack Blocker, Triston Harper, Will Moseley, and Emmy Russell who are still in the competition. It really could be anyone's game right now, it's so hard to guess who could be crowned the winner. Though if I had to place my money on someone, it's honestly Abi. The 21year-old from Indio, California has continuously impressed us and Idol judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry, with every performance. Each time she takes the stage, it's magic. It's amazing to see how she's grown and just holds that power on stage each time. Who are you cheering on?
