American Idol season 22 results: Who went home and who is our new American Idol?
Tonight is the night we've all been waiting for! And the night that the Top 3 have been working so hard towards all season of American Idol 2024. The winner has been revealed this evening, and it's all based on America's votes. This is called American Idol after all. The people have spoken!
The exciting grand finale of American Idol season 22 featured the Top 3 - Abi Carter, Jack Blocker, and Will Moseley - each taking the stage one last time. The big night also featured a number of musical performances, which we'll get to below. But first, who is the winner of American Idol 2024? Read on below to find out!
The American Idol 2024 winner is...
The winner of American Idol season 22 was Abi Carter! Abi was crowned the winner of this season at the tail end of the three-hour season finale, beating Will Moseley to become the latest in a string of talented artists to win American Idol. Clearly, the judges were right in giving Carter a Platinum Ticket as she proved to be a breakout across the season and won over America's heart!
The winner reveal capped off a night of performances from the final artists who were each looking to secure some final votes in hopes of becoming the next American Idol. The night began with the Top 3 performing songs from Bon Jovi and we then got to see their hometown visits before they performed yet another song. Here's a quick recap of the performances:
- “It’s My Life" - Will Moseley
- “I’ll Be There For You" - Jack Blocker
- “Bed of Roses" - Abi Carter
- "My Town" by Montgomery Gentry - Will Moseley
- “All My Exes Live in Texas” by George Strait - Jack Blocker
- “Somewhere” from the Broadway show West Side Story - Abi Carter
After Jack's elimination, we also got to see our Top 2 each perform their new original songs with Will singing “Good Book Bad," and Abi singing “This Isn’t Over.”
Season 22 runner-ups
During the second hour of the three-hour finale, we got our first result of the season with the elimination of the first member of the Top 3. Much to our disappointment, it was Jack Blocker who was eliminated first making him our third-place finisher for the night. This meant that either Abi Carter or Will Moseley would become our next American Idol.
As the finale came to a close, host Ryan Seacrest revealed that Abi Carter has won which meant that Will Moseley finished the season as the Season 22 runner-up.
Other than the final three contestants performing, the finale also featured so many awesome guest performers to celebrate the end of the season. Those are American Idol season 14 winner Nick Fradiani, mentor of the week Jon Bon Jovi, New Kids on the Block, Jason Mraz, Hootie & the Blowfish, CeCe Winans, Seal, Bishop Briggs, and James Bay.
Plus, the lovely judges, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and the one and only Katy Perry each took the stage to perform as well. This episode was a bittersweet one for Perry as the show and her fellow judges celebrated and honored her to commemorate her farewell. Earlier this year, the long-time Idol judge revealed season 22 would be her last. She's ready to move on and get back into music. It's a great loss, but we can't fault her for that.
I wonder who will take her place next season. I'm really looking forward to what American Idol season 23 brings to the table. That's right! ABC has already renewed the fan-favorite singing series, coming our way in the midseason schedule in 2025. It's been a tough season and competition, but certainly a fun one! And I'm sure next year's will be no different. And we'll get a whole new talented Idol winner!
