FBI: International just answered the question of what happened to Scott Forrester. How was Luke Kleintank’s character written out and what does it mean for season 4? Here's what we know!

Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for FBI: International season 3 finale

With the surprising news that Luke Kleintank was leaving the show, fans have speculated about what would happen with Forrester. A surprise was that Kleintank’s last episode on May 7 contained no hints Forrester was going anywhere, as he was seen at the office like usual.

The penultimate episode had the team sent to Oslo as word came that Forrester’s spy mom Angela Cassidy was being held prisoner. Scott himself had gone off the grid, worrying the gang. They were aided by NSA liaison Brian Lange (Colin Donnell) as they hoped to get Angela added to two reporters they were already planning to bust out.

Angela was shown only instead of Elizabeth Mitchell, she was being played by Teri Polo. She endured brutal torture before being freed, only to be held prisoner again, this time by Nikolai, who worked for mobster Karpov. He showed a video of Angela to Vo and Lange, offering to exchange her for a big bounty. After he left, Vo told Lange there was one problem: The woman in the video wasn’t Angela.

Enter our resident CIA slimeball Marty (Steven Culp) to explain the CIA had received an encrypted dossier from Angela a year earlier. The woman in the video was Tess, a nurse who’d been arrested aiding in Ukraine, tossed in the same cell as Angela and the two bonded. Thus, she might hold the key to the dossier.

As for the real Angela, there was no word on where she could be but Forrester had his security clearance revoked so if he did return, his future with the FBI was pretty much dead.

The team got into a shootout with Nikolai and his men at a ski resort, saving Tess only to get arrested by Norwegian authorities.

What happened to Forrester on FBI: International?

Luckily, Tess unknowingly had the cipher key inked on her wrist by Angela. Lange was able to use it to cut a deal to let the Fly Team walk in exchange for the intel. Tess explained that Forrester had gotten Angela out of jail and told Tess to use her name in hopes for the team to track her down.

Tate got a hit on Forrester, who seemed to be heading to Alaska, presumably with his mom. Lange agreed not to report it and his words indicated he might be working with the team again.

The final scene had the team (including Tank!) coming together to toast their former leader goodbye, and they knew Scott was happier keeping his mom safe. Thus, Scott is gone, although it is possible that he will pop back up, FBI: International's Fly Team is going to be moving on without their long-time boss.

FBI: International season 3 is streaming on Paramount+.
