NCIS: Origins will slide into NCIS: Hawaii's timeslot come Fall 2024
NCIS fans now have a day for when the Gibbs prequel airs, and it's no surprise it's joining the mothership! Find out more here!
The franchise is in a bit of flux now. It celebrated its 1000th episode with a great storyline that linked it to other NCIS shows. Sadly, CBS dampened the mood by shockingly canceling NCIS: Hawaii after only three seasons. Despite fan hopes, it doesn't appear that the show is coming back.
Instead, CBS is banking on nostalgia being a factor with the planned NCIS: Origins, which can be best described as "Young Gibbs." Mark Harmon will narrate as the now-retired Gibbs, looking back at his time as a young NCIS agent in 1991.
Austin Stowell will play the younger Gibbs with Kyle Schmid as the younger Mike Franks, Gibbs' mentor and the guy who first nicknamed him "Probie." The rest of the cast includes Mariel Molino as Special Agent Lala Dominguez, Tyla Abercrumbie as Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Sullivan and Robert Taylor will recur as Gibbs' father, Jackson (played in the main series by the late Ralph Waite).
The show looks to be a fun look back at how Gibbs became the tough agent we know. It'll be interesting to see how NCIS operated in the time before the Internet (which may explain Gibbs' lack of technological prowess). The "retro" feel adds to the appeal and the franchise's fans will turn out for a prequel show about a beloved main character.
CBS seems to have faith in this show given they're canceling Hawaii to make room for it on the fall schedule. With the full order coming, when does it premiere on CBS?
When does NCIS: Origins premiere?
CBS just announced their fall schedule which sets the timeslot for NCIS: Origins. The show is going to slip right into NCIS: Hawaii's time slot on Mondays at 10/9c. There's no premiere date yet but it'll likely debut in September as that's when NCIS season 22 is expected to start airing.
It's no shock CBS wants to link this to the mothership, even though fans were no doubt hopeful that Hawaii could have been kept for a full NCIS night. Obviously, back-to-back NCIS works out for fans and should help the show get off to a good start.
Thus, when NCIS: Origins premieres in the fall, it will be interesting seeing the current NCIS bouncing into the past for this prequel series.
