Station 19 and Grey's Anatomy will crossover one last time and not just for Ben and Carina's storylines
It's been confirmed! There will be one last Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 crossover before the latter series ends.
As a spinoff of the long-running Grey's Anatomy set in the same city, it's only naturalthe firefighter drama has crossed over with the mothership. A common bit was how the Station 19 crew handled an emergency, and then the patients would pop up on the Grey's Anatomy episode following it.
There have also been relationships across the show with Carina (Stefania Spampinato) and Maya (Danielle Savre) a couple, and Ben (Jason George), married to Grey's Bailey(Chandra Wilson). Of course, ABC has had them do some crossover events, and the show's links are obvious.
With the announcement Station 19 will be ending with its upcoming seventh season, it's logical they have one last big crossover with Grey's. There's also the question of what it can involve and the possibility if any Station 19 characters might make the jump over to Grey's Anatomy when the spinoff concludes. We have some answers from the showrunner!
The Grey's Anatomy showrunner teases the final crossover
Speaking to Deadline, Grey's Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis shared some details on the final season for Station 19. That includes confirming that Ben and Carina will both be popping up on Grey's. She also praised working with new Station 19 showrunners Zoanne Clack & Peter Paige.
"We're constantly on the phone because I want to be able to help them any way I can succeed in telling amazing ends to their stories — whether it's a crossover medical case or whether it's Ben crossing over, whether it's Carina crossing over. We'll definitely see Carina on Grey's at one point."
As for the planned crossover, all Marinis hinted was "we like to share catastrophes, that's what I'm saying."
The shows have had some fun crossovers, often simple ones with a firefighter at the hospital. The first major one was a four-parter across the two shows in 2021 that culminated in the tragic death of Carina's brother, Andrew. There was also a lightning storm across Seattle and most recently, an attack on a clinic.
Thus, there's still plenty to try out from storms to a huge fire and logically the Grey's docs ouldget called in to handle the aftermath of the Gala disaster. The shows may not go full-on 9-1-1 style in epic events but it's probable they'll want to do one huge crossover emergency to send off Station 19.
As for the chances of Ben and Carina possibly rejoining Grey's when Station 19 ends, Marinis was likewise coy but hopeful.
"I don't want to answer that because I don't want to answer anything about Station 19 that I'm not only fully aware of. How they end their stories will help me determine whether or not I will be seeing those characters on Grey's."
So fans can prepare for a bit more crossover between Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 before the latter ends and hope some of the Station 19 spirit will live on in the original series.
Grey's Anatomy season 20 and Station 19 season 7 premiere Thursday, March 14 starting at 9/8c on ABC.
