Taylor tells Li a shocking secret with the power to change everything on Bold and the Beautiful
By Sabrina Reed
If you, like me, were suspicious of the reason Taylor gave Ridge for why she came back home, Sept. 20's episode of The Bold and the Beautiful confirmed we had a right to be wary. The way the good doctor has been talking lately has been setting off alarm bells, From her continued emphasis on her not wanting to miss anymore of her loved ones' lives to the passing comment she made about her heart, it seemed like something was wrong.
The episode opened with Taylor on the phone telling a mysterious person on the other end that she'd share when she has more information and she thanked them for checking in. She looked upset as she spoke though grateful for the person's concern. Brooke showed up just as Taylor was getting off the phone and the two launched into a discussion about their daughters and the need for Hope to understand the gravity of her actions.
By the end, they seemed to be ready to try again at being friends. Last time that went disastrously so it was surprising that Taylor was open to the idea. But, when Li showed up after getting a text from Taylor asking her to stop by, things began to make more sense. Brooke was gone so the in-laws had the opportunity to speak freely.
Li was under the impression that Taylor wanted to speak with her because she's opening up her practice again. However, that's not why Taylor wanted to see her. She wanted to speak doctor to doctor. As suspected, Taylor had been in Monaco for a doctor's appointment. She has heart failure; she's dying. Shocking, I know.
Her choice to tell Li is an interesting one since she's Finn's mother. It's going to be tough for Li to sit on this secret and we still need to learn why Taylor told her in the first place. Does she want her take up her case without anyone knowing? Or has she accepted that her heart is failing and wants Li to provide palliative care under the radar? There's much to consider with this storyline, the biggest question being whether Taylor's really going to be written out.
Is Taylor leaving Bold and the Beautiful? (Speculation)
On the one hand, writing Taylor out makes sense for the soap. She was inconsistently on in the later years of Hunter Tylo's tenure in the role which made for clunky storytelling whenever her absence had to be explained away during trying times that Steffy and Thomas experienced, even near fatal ones.
There was hope that with Krista Allen stepping into the doctor's shoes, and developing a devoted fanbase who love her turn, that there'd be more stability for the character. But after a couple of years she, too, began to have spotty appearances before she ultimately revealed that she wasn't asked back as a contract actor.
Now Rebecca Budig has taken up the mantle but for how long? This storyline involving Taylor's heart could be the writers' way of giving her character a permanent but compelling exit to finally end the struggle over what to do with her. But I hope that won't be the case.
I know I'm biased as a Steffy fan but she already experienced the loss of Phoebe, her twin. Then, it turned out the daughter she adopted and named after her sister was really Hope's baby and she was abruptly ripped from her home. Beth needed to be reunited with her biological mother but it was already a traumatic experience and it was made worse by how it was done.
Steffy's grief over what happened, and previous losses that had upended her life, caused her to become dependent on pain killers that were initially used for helping her manage the pain she was in after a motorcycle accident. Fast forward a few years, she nearly dies in an alleyway and thought she was a widow, having lost Finn before it was revealed that he was alive.
Most recently, Luna nearly killed Steffy. She can't catch a break! The soap is going to add on the loss of her mother as well? It's too much. I'm all for a last minute miracle. Did we already do this last fall with Eric when he was thought to be dying only for Finn to work out an experimental procedure that cured him by the start of 2024? Absolutely, and I have no problem with the writers doing it again.
Li knows. It's only a matter of time before Finn does, too. Bridget is coming back to town (possibly by next week!). We could have all the doctors on deck for Taylor as she deserves. Hopefully, that's the case. Either way, with Taylor sick, we can bet on Ridge wanting to be there for her which l cause problems with Brooke even with the two trying to be friends.
We can also expect a lot of emotion. Ridge called Taylor the glue that holds their family together. Get your tissues ready because the Forresters could start coming apart at the seams when Taylor's heart failure is no longer a secret. They love her fiercely and dearly, and there's no way we're getting out of this storyline without crying ourselves.
