The Amazing Rudy was the perfect Bob's Burgers episode for an Emmy nomination
Being a Bob's Burgers fan is always exciting especially when awards season comes around. In recent years, the show has snagged an Emmy nomination.
While the show's track record for wins has been slim, it always manages to top itself, and going into season 14, a lot of us were understandably anxious. That was in large part due to the two strikes and the changes being made to the series.
Will only 13 short episodes, Bob's Burgers alleviated all worries and the show submitted its earliest episode for Emmy contention. Airing as episode 2 in season 14, "The Amazing Rudy" was the episode that helped Bob's Burgers get yet another Emmy nomination.
While the show didn't get any other nominations, it's worth mentioning that this episode aired so early into the season yet wasn't beaten out by anything else and there's something truly beautiful about that.
"The Amazing Rudy" might be the golden ticket to Emmy glory
As someone who has watched and loved Bob's Burgers for years, I've seen the show take risks. Some work and some just don't. After the release of The Bob's Burgers Movie, it feels like the show started to take itself more seriously and since then, episodes like "The Amazing Rudy" have come to fruition.
For those who haven't watched the episode, it follows our favorite side character, Regular-Sized Rudy as he plans to attend a dinner with his father, his father's girlfriend and his mother and her partner. He tries to make the best of a bad situation but it ends up being a terrible time for him. He eventually goes to the Belchers and spends time with them which makes him feel even better.
Despite my shortened version of events, "The Amazing Rudy" was a more nuanced and emotional episode. Not only did we get a new perspective from Rudy but we learned more about his life and him as a character. While other shows might have shied away from taking such a risk, Bob's Burgers did and it paid off in a big way. Even though I haven't gone back and rewatched the episode yet, this one is definitely on my list to revisit.
The past year has felt like a metamorphosis for Bob's Burgers and its content. Whether it was due to the strikes or the crew reevaluating, it's honestly amazing to see how the series has evolved. Even large outlets like CNN are paying attention to the show which hasn't always been the case.
Hopefully, we'll see even more hype and excitement about the show's Emmy nod during San Diego Comic-Con. Until then though, there is more than enough time to go back and do a rewatch of "The Amazing Rudy" before the Emmy winners are announced on Sept. 15, 2024.
"The Amazing Rudy" and all season 14 episodes of Bob's Burgers are currently streaming on Hulu.
