The Irrational is on the move for season 2, so find out when and where you can see it this fall!

Premiering in the fall of 2023 (one of the few scripted network dramas airing amid the strike-shortened season), The Irrational brought back to TV veteran actor Jesse L. Martin. He plays Alec Mercer, a professor who’s an expert in various forms of psychology, behavioral science, and more. He’s often called to aid the police and FBI on cases, aided by his ex-wife, Marisa Clark.

Each episode has Alec using his special skills to crack cases involving robbery, kidnapping, and even occasional terrorist acts. A long-range plotline in the first season was Alec wrestling with the effects of a church bombing when he was younger that left him scarred. When he began suspecting the convicted bomber may be part of a bigger plot, Alec was quick to investigate.

NBC had ordered the show straight to series in 2022 with production underway in early 2023. They had seven episodes completed when the summer strikes happened with NBC going ahead to debut the show in October with the final episodes wrapped up when the strikes ended.

The season 1 finale concluded with Alec finally discovering the real person behind the bombing and bringing them to justice. But in the final scene, Alec’s love interest Rose was abducted by a mysterious group. Thank goodness NBC renewed the show for a season 2! Now it's been revealed the series will be getting a new time slot this fall.

The Irrational returns in Fall 2024 on a new night

NBC unveiled its new 2024-25 fall schedule and it’s confirmed that The Irrational will now air Tuesday at 10/9c following the new comedy St. Denis Medical, Night Court, and The Voice.

That puts the show against FBI: Most Wanted for a tougher ratings fight than it had in season 1. It is expected to have a full 22-episode season, whereas season 1 only had 11 due to being interrupted by the strikes.

There’s no word yet on any cast changes, as it’s expected the hunt for Rose will be a big plotline. The show will likely continue its one-off episodes on Alec handling cases with his unique style while playing on Marisa helping out.

This new time slot is a shift for the series but one that can lead to bigger success as The Irrational is prepared to make season 2 an even bigger hit for the new crime drama.

The Irrational season 1 is streaming on Peacock.
