We’ve got our first look at Wild Cards Season 2, as the trailer hints at the great action to come!
For those who missed it in 2024, Wild Cards is a Canadian TV show originally airing on the CBC network. The CW acquired it to air, aided by how star Vanessa Morgan had starred in the network’s long-running hit Riverdale.
The plot is a classic one for a caper show. Max Mitchell (Morgan) is a con artist, albeit one with a moral code. She’s busted by the cops and arrested by Cole Ellis (Giacomo Gianniotti), a former top homicide detective, until he was busted down to boat patrol after being framed for having drugs.
Max manages to cut a deal with the cops and uses her skills to help catch other crooks, with the condition that Cole is her handler. Season 1 had the pair working together, aided by Max’s father, George (Jason Priestly), who’s in jail for his own con games.
The Season 1 finale had Cole realizing Max was using him to pull off a big con to gain millions just as he was about to get back his job as a detective. However, Max showed up at Cole’s boat to say she had information about the murder of Cole’s brother.
That sets up a bigger season 2 and the trailer hints at the fun to come!
“Reassigned to work together in Season 2, the stakes are raised in the cases they solve, the search for a killer and their feelings for each other. Combining his intelligent, level-headed detective work with her charismatic skills as a con-woman, this unlikely duo is back, complete with disguises, surprising twists and of course, Ellis’ cat Marc.”
Check out the fun for Wild Cards Season 2
The Season 2 trailer shows that Max and Cole are working together again, but Cole makes it clear that he can no longer trust Max. He now considers every move she makes part of some wider hustle and is still upset over her using him before.
We get the old banter and Max seems to really want to “get back to where we were before.” There are also hints at the types of cases they get into, like Cole pulling Max onto a horse (which she seems to hate) and them going undercover in an illegal racing operation.
We also get glimpses of the various big guest stars coming this season: Ally Sheedy, Marie Avgeropoulos, Katie Findlay, WWE wrestling star Tony D’Angelo, and Martin Sheen as veteran con artist Joseph Edwards, dispensing “advice” to Max on her games.
The key is still the wonderful chemistry between Max and Cole, which even their fellow cops love. As they try to rebuild their partnership and the cases amp up the drama, Wild Cards is ready to deal viewers back into a fantastic caper show.
Wild Cards Season 2 premieres Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 8/7c on The CW.
