There are certain lines that will make fans think of their favorite shows. Supernatural fans have way too many to mention!

“Winter is coming,” “magic always comes with a price,” and “always and forever” have one thing in common. They’re lines that all fans of their shows will remember. The moment you hear them, you think of Game of Thrones, Once Upon a Time, or The Originals. There’s no doubt about it. Supernatural fans have the same, but on a grander scale.

There isn’t just one line that fans will hear and think of their show. Sure, “family don’t end with blood” is definitely one of the biggest, but there are so many others. These lines have been included again and again in the show, mostly as fan service now that the show is going into its 13th season.

These are the top nine lines or phrases that all Supernatural fans will know. Don’t forget to let us know if we’ve missed any in the comments at the end!

Family don’t end with blood

Yes, this one has to make the list, right? It’s still one of the best from the series and certainly shares the message of what the show is about. While Sam and Dean only had each other as blood relatives for a long time, they’ve had a larger family throughout the States.

Bobby made it very clear that just because he wasn’t a blood relative didn’t mean he wasn’t part of their family; and vice versa. This family has grown to include Charlie, Castiel, Kevin, Jody, Claire, Alex, Donna, Benny, and many more people. They’ve all touched the hearts of fans and the Winchesters.

This was turned on its head. When Crowley seemed to have a bit of an identity crisis, Dean was the sounding voice. Not only does family not end with blood, but “it doesn’t start there, either.” This was meant to see Dean make it clear to Crowley that Rowena wasn’t his family just because she was his mother, but it also let fans see that Crowley could become part of the Winchester family if he wanted.

Other Bobby line’s or phrases include: “Idjits,” “balls,” and “Do I look like some ditchable prom date to you?”

Saving people, hunting things. The family business

Every single Supernatural fan out there has to know this line. It’s one of the biggest of the lot and has been used on countless merchandise over the years.

The line wasn’t said until Season 1, Episode 2. Dean was sitting in the woods with Sam, pointing at John’s journal. He knew that their dad wanted the brothers to start hunting the monsters in the world together. It was up to them now, wherever he was.

Was the line supposed to be as big as it was? Maybe it was the intention. However, it has taken a new life of its own. Most recently it was turned on its head. In Supernatural Season 12 one of the “monsters” tells Dean that his family business is “hunting people, killing them.” There’s a look from Dean that makes it clear he knows what that line is supposed to be.

Driver picks the music. Shotgun shuts his cakehole

Supernatural fans have not been allowed to forget this line. It was used on the T-shirts that were handed out at the Q&A panel at this year’s SDCC. Chances are fans wouldn’t have forgotten about it anyway.

One of the best lines from the pilot, it’s spoken to Sam as he looks through Dean’s music. He clearly isn’t happy with the idea of cassette tapes and classic rock, but he has no choice in the matter. This was also an instant insight into Dean’s personality. We knew he wasn’t going to take too well to new technology.

Other Dean lines include: “I’m Batman,” “I think I’m adorable,” “Dad’s on a hunting trip and he hasn’t been home in a few days,” “pudding,” and “I wish I couldn’t feel a damn thing.”

So get this…

I’m not even sure when this line first came up on the show, but it’s sometime in Season 1. I’ve been rewatching, but haven’t quite worked it out yet. I think the first time it was said was in Episode 4 “Phantom Traveler,” but I can’t be 100% certain.

You’ll know exactly who says it and when on Supernatural. Yes, it’s Sammy, and he says it as soon as he finds anything interesting about lore, creatures, or the case they’re on. What I would love to know is whether this was a line written into the show or whether Jared Padalecki created it for every time Sam found something interesting.

Dean has never brought the line up. It’s not been used as much in recent years, but if you look at the very first few years of the show, you will see it pop up a lot.

I lost my shoe

Supernatural Season 3 is the shortest season of all, thanks to the writer’s strike at the time. However, that doesn’t stop it from being one of the best. It was full of excellent one-liners, including Sam’s “I lost my shoe.”

After losing the lucky rabbit’s foot, Sam’s luck turns sour. As Dean finds out what it means from Bobby, Sam stands in gum and then drops his shoe down a drain. The roll of Dean’s eyes is classic, but it’s the look on Sam’s face that has fans remembering this line; he’s looks like he’s already just given up with the world.

Other Sam lines include: “Boop,” “What kind of house doesn’t have salt? Low sodium freaks,” and “It doesn’t matter what you are. It only matters what you do.”

I’ll interrogate the cat

There is only one character who could have said this line. It’s a classic Castiel line from the earlier seasons. There aren’t as many of these anymore, partially because Castiel understands a little more about human contact.

While in a nursing home, Dean is questioning a woman about an event. He doesn’t get anywhere, but Castiel is sure that the cat knows something. While the line is basically ignored, fans can’t help but wonder if Cas did get any answers from the cat about anything.

I’ll just wait here then

Before Castiel became the best friend to the Winchesters, he was the angel who pulled Dean from perdition and helped them on their quest to prevent the seals from being broken. His profound bond with Dean meant that it was the elder Winchester who always got the phone calls.

When Castiel phones from the side of the road, Dean makes it clear that he needs sleep. Castiel’s lack of knowledge of the world means that he doesn’t get many social cues or know what to do while waiting. He chooses to wait by the side of the road.

This line is so well known that it was used in Supernatural’s 200th episode as a song.

Other Castiel lines: “I learned that from the pizza man,” “Please accept this sandwich as a gesture of solidarity,” “I found a liquor store and I drank it,” and “My people skills are rusty.”

I deserve to be loved

Crowley can’t be missed off the list. This is one of his more memorable bigger lines. During the Supernatural Season 8 finale, Crowley was used as the demon to cure. Sam needed to do this to close the gates of Hell for good.

The whole ritual wasn’t completed, but we did start to see some changes to Crowley’s character. As he was injected with more human blood, he started to feel more. In the end, he broken down just wanting to be loved by someone.

We wouldn’t know it until later, but Crowley wasn’t even loved by his mother. It wasn’t that surprising he sold his soul and became a demon; using his positions in the demon world to fill that void of feeling unloved.

Hello, boys

Ask Supernatural fans to share one line that all fans will know, and a lot of them will share this. It’s the second of Crowley’s lines to make the list, and has been said countless of times. Supernatural just isn’t going to be the same without Mark Sheppard’s grizzly voice saying these two simple words.

Sometimes he doesn’t quite call them “boys.” He uses their nicknames “Moose” and “Squirrel,” but it’s always this line that makes us smile.

Other Crowley quotes: “Open your eyes, Dean. See what I see. Feel what I feel and let’s go take a howl at the moon,” “Surrender or die? What are we? French?” and “You betrayed me! No one in the history of torture’s been tortured with torture like the torture you’ll be tortured with!”

Here are a few others. Why not tell us who they were said by?

  • “I kinda always wanted to punch the devil in the face”
  • “He told me to ‘shut up'”
  • “Hey bro. How’s the search for Daddy going? Let me guess: awful.”
  • “Dean, take your brother outside as fast as you can.”
  • “You’re a little short for a Stormtrooper.”
