Broad City season 4, episode 7 Florida: Would the girls ever leave NYC?

Everyone knows life in NYC is not cheap! But Ilana (Ilana Glazer) and Abbi (Abbi Jacobson) don’t realize just how expensive and hectic their New York lifestyle is until they visit the sunshine state, Florida!

Ilana’s grandmother, Esther, has passed away, so she and her family, along with Abbi, are collecting her belongings from Esther’s retirement community. Upon arriving to Florida, Ilana’s mom, Bobbi Wexler (Susie Essman) says it best, “Welcome to Florida! America’s droopy d*ck!” But is Florida really so bad?
Other than extreme humidity that gives the girls a major ‘fro, Ilana and Abbi are loving Florida. The sun rays, the air, how quiet it is. They begin to wonder why they live in New York where it’s such a stressing and busy environment.

I mean, the girls are greeted with a gun pointed at their face, literally. A resident there, Elena, walks out with a gun. Because it’s Florida. Elena is surprised by their shocked reaction and says, “this? It’s called ‘stand your ground,’ snowflakes.” The gun accidentally fires, but Elena thinks it’s no big deal. So okay, maybe Florida does have a few flaws.
While Bobbi and her sister Beverly are fighting over their mother’s belongings, Ilana and Abbi are exploring the community! There are even fresh, beautiful oranges in the trees! The girls feel so at peace. “Of course you feel at peace here, you don’t have the city grinding you down, twisting your t*tties until you’re beggin for mercy!” Ilana tells Abbi.

A resident passes them as they walk, holding a huge gun. “Okay, the gun thing is actually terrifying, but other than that!” Abbi tells Ilana, and she agrees, “Other than that!”
As if answering any doubts, Ilana and Abbi learn that there is an apartment available. The rent? $425 a month! Ilana and Abbi don’t waste a second in saying, “we’ll take it!” Even though senior citizens are preferred, the realtor tells them they may be able to make an exception if Ilana and Abbi can convince the residents. Up against the ladies is a couple highly interested in the apartment.
Ilana and Abbi spend the next several minutes of the episode helping out the residents and befriending them to earn their votes.

Then, finally, voting time! The winners? Ilana and Abbi! But not so fast! The committee has no shame in revealing why they selected Ilana and Abbi over a senior couple — “We’d rather have two young, Jewish dykes, than a couple of negros.” Consider us shook!
Ilana and Abbi can’t run outta there fast enough! To answer our question, yes, Florida really is that bad! Negative bonus: A gun comes with the apartment.
