Patience was the first new character for the Supernatural spin-off and instantly proved to be likeable.

Many Supernatural fans were understandably apprehensive about Patience Turner at first. Named as the first new character for Wayward Sisters, fans learned that not only was she a psychic but also still in high school. Cue a lot of questions about teen angst.

When she was introduced in “Patience,” the third episode of Season 13, many fans were relieved. She was the perfect balanced against Claire Novak’s sometimes brash nature and Alex Jones’ angsty personality. Sure, both Claire and Alex have become more likeable over the years, but Patience was one character many could get on board with from the start.

Here’s why she’s so loveable and the perfect addition to Wayward Sisters.

She’s one smart cookie

There’s no denying that Patience is smart. During her introductory episode, she explained that she was in AP classes. The next time we saw her, she was struggling with her homework but that was due to everything she’d witnessed and was still witnessing since realizing she is a psychic. It’s understandable that her schoolwork would suffer when the supernatural world had been opened up to her. However, her father had dreams of her getting a 4.0 GPA and going to a Ivy League college, proving she is smart.

Wayward needs someone like her. After all, Supernatural has this type of character with Sam. Whenever there’s a problem, you can usually rely on Sam to find the smart solution. He thinks on his feet and isn’t afraid to make reasonable assumptions. Patience will be that sort of character for the spin-off, helping with the lore and mythology of whatever the women go up against.

She’s kind and considerate

Patience is one of those characters who will put others first. We’ve seen this when she rushed out of the house after getting the vision of Jody’s death. This will be an important balance against a couple of the other characters. Claire and now Kaia are likely to be a little more selfish. Patience will bring in a different personality to the mix.

She’s just like Sam in the way. While Dean doesn’t always give people the time of day, Sam will be open to listening. He reads between the lines and is considerate of feelings much more than Dean. Wayward is going to need someone like that.

She’s willing to sacrifice to do what’s right

When Patience got the vision of Jody’s death in the Supernatural winter finale, she rushed out of the house. To hell with schoolwork and college applications. She needed to get to Jody and make sure she stopped whatever was coming. Even when her father told her that she wasn’t welcome back if she left, she made a huge sacrifice to do the right thing.

This is something anyone in the supernatural world would need to do. Others have already made their huge sacrifices, whether it’s killing the people they viewed as family or accepting that their family isn’t coming back. This part of Patience’s personality is similar to Dean, who has given up happiness and safety to make sure the whole world is safe. In fact, both Winchesters have given their lives for the sake of humanity, proving sacrifice is a necessity.
