When Sterling K. Brown first appeared on Supernatural, many fans hoped that he would be a character to like. As a hunter, there was hope that the Winchesters’ hunter family could expand. Unfortunately, things took a dark twist and they created an enemy that would track them down in the future.

The Winchesters run into Gordon

With their restored Impala, the Winchesters head off to investigate cattle mutilations and murders. It’s clear that vampires are likely involved, which is why they run into Gordon Walker. Gordon is a hunter with a vengeance against vampires, since one killed his sister.

It looks like the three hunters could get along, although Ellen makes it clear to Sam that he’s not a man to be trusted. However, Gordon and Dean hit it off, with similar views on monsters: everything needs to be killed. During a bonding session, Dean admits that John’s death has deeply affected him and he’s currently putting on a brave face.

Sam gets taken

With Dean and Gordon bonding, Sam returns to the motel room, where he’s taken by Lenore. As the head of the nest, she explains that her vamps are all innocent monsters. They only drink the blood from animals. Sam realizes that they’re not evil, despite being monsters, and is released.

However, Dean has a different view. They’re monsters and all supernatural monsters need to be killed. When the argument turns on how Dean is using Gordon to replace John, the Winchesters get into a fight.

The only reason they don’t go their separate ways is because they have the vampires to deal with. By the time they get to Lenore’s home, they find Gordon torturing her. Gordon opens up more, admitting that his sister had actually been turned and Gordon had to kill her. Dean is shocked, knowing that he wouldn’t necessarily be able to kill his brother.

Gordon also shows that the creatures can’t fight their natural tendencies, by cutting his arm and dripping the blood onto Lenore. Dean uses his chance to overpower Gordon, while Sam gets Lenore out of the house. Lenore’s vampires are able to leave town, while Dean ties Gordon up and they leave him.

Dean admits that the world isn’t black and white. This clearly links to Sam and his psychic powers and sets up an overarching story for the season. Meanwhile, it sets up the long-term hatred Gordon gains for the Winchesters.
