The Apocalypse World has been introduced, but how much do we really know?

Supernatural introduced the parallel worlds in the Season 12 finale. As Jack was born, a rift was created and the Winchesters, Castiel and Crowley were able to cross into the Apocalypse World. While it’s been seen briefly in Season 13, the world hasn’t been explored in depth.

Now there’s a chance to explore it in more depth. Jack is trapped in the Apocalypse World, after the dreamwalking experience went a little wrong. Since he’s a series regular, more time can be spent on him getting Mary out of her prison and exploring the world in more detail.

But does the show really need this? Well, as a short answer, yes! There’s so much to gain from exploring the Apocalypse World and more parallel worlds the show could create. This is a chance to right some of the wrongs with deaths (*cough* Charlie *cough*) and bring a fresh look to a show that’s going to become a teenager in September.

There’s a chance to show a different side to the angels; a world where angels rule, demons are likely on the run and hunters have to band together or be killed. There’s a little more danger, but to get that sense the world needs to open its doors more.

Yet there’s a chance that the show won’t bother. There’s a chance that this wide world of opportunities will just be forgotten about; left behind like Sam’s lost shoe.

It’s also time to explore the other worlds

Speaking of lost shoes, Supernatural used to thrive with meta episodes. Things have changed in recent years, losing the fun, quirkiness that it used to have. “Tombstone” attempted to bring some of it back, but it was nothing of the likes of “Fan Fiction,” “Changing Channels,” and “A Bad Day at Black Rock.”

The parallel worlds give the chance to bring more of that quirkiness back. The Scooby Doo crossover is certainly a step in the right direction—and there are high hopes that it will be pulled off properly—but there are still so many more opportunities. The showrunners just have to be willing to explore more of these other worlds and put our Winchesters in stranger positions.
